Georgetown, Demerara-Mahaica, Guyana: statue of Queen Victoria in front of the High Court - commissioned in 1887 to mark the Golden Jubilee, this statue was unveiled in 1894, sculptor Henry Richard Hope-Pinker, damaged by a bomb in 1954, in an act of anti-colonial protest, the nose is still missing - The Supreme Court Of Judicature, The High Court - The compound, originally called The Victoria Law Courts opened in 1887, on Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, by British Governor Sir Henry Irving. The “L” shaped building was designed by Baron Hora Siccama, the Colonial Engineer and Cesar Castellani, then Assistant Architect of the Public Works Department.
