"Visitors sit nearby the inscribed granite pylon slabs of the East Coast Memorial which honors U.S. Sailors, Merchant Marines and U.S. Marine Corps personnel lost in the Atlantic Ocean during conflict in WWII. The pylons were erected in 1959 and the U.S. Government officially completed and dedicated it in 1963. Both the inscribed pylons and the Eagle on pedestal sculpture at the right are aligned with the Statue of Liberty across the bay.
