Description
A suggestive and romantic sunset view of Piazza del Popolo and the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli seen from the viewpoint of the Pincio Gardens in Villa Borghese, in the historic heart of Rome. In neoclassical style, the current elliptical shape of Piazza del Popolo is the work of the Roman architect and urban planner Giuseppe Valadier, who in the early 19th century redesigned the entire square and the large central fountain, relocating an Egyptian obelisk that was transported to Rome by the emperor Augustus to embellish the Circus Maximus and present in the square since 1589. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.
