Description
A twilight view over Piazza del Popolo seen from the viewpoint of the Pincio Gardens in Villa Borghese, in the historic heart of Rome. In neoclassical style, the current elliptical shape of Piazza del Popolo is the work of the Roman architect and urban planner Giuseppe Valadier, who in the early 19th century redesigned the entire square and the large central fountain, relocating an Egyptian obelisk that was transported to Rome by the emperor Augustus to embellish the Circus Maximus and present in this square since 1589. On the left the two twin churches of Santa Maria in Montesanto and Santa Maria dei Miracoli. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
