Position Summary
The “STEM”—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—Specialist will develop, create, and manage partnership programs that utilize the International Space Station National Lab (ISSNL) as a platform to educate and promote STEM activities to students and educators from Kindergarten through 12th grade (K-12) working with both formal and informal education organizations.
The position reports to the Director of Strategic Engagement and STEM Programs.
Role Responsibilities (not all-inclusive)
- In collaboration with the departmental and organizational strategies, coordinate and project manage STEM education outreach projects and partnerships
- Support the implementation of K-12 and citizen science education projects of varying scales from project definition through project delivery and evaluate their effectiveness to ensure continued improvement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ISS National Lab STEM partners, including the ISS National Lab Ambassadors and Space Station Explorers partners
- Organize, lead, and participate in educational conferences, workshops, and special events. Support of these activities will require travel and flexibility with scheduling, may require local or out of state travel, and may occur on a weekend. Participation and travel are planned in advance and not expected to be more than 20% of the time.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of education initiatives that target students throughout the K-12 spectrum, including those in traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities and in both formal and informal education settings
- Assist with the evaluation of ISS National Laboratory STEM education research proposals
- Evaluate and contribute to the development of education grant proposals to external funding organizations
- Exercise of discretion and independent judgment for matters of significance
Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Science, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering, or Communications or a relevant combination of education with experience
- Proven experience with formal and informal STEM education projects and outreach or program development
- Knowledge of effective strategies to better engage and influence groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields
- Experience with creating STEM content for social media platforms
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with multiple internal and external stakeholders and employees
- A mindset for innovation and creative solutions
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities at one time and an energetic willingness to learn
- Adaptable/flexible and ability to handle multiple tasks

Summary
The Web Developer is responsible for full-stack development and maintenance of the websites for the International Space Station National Laboratory. This includes designing new microsites and landing pages and updating existing website functionality and content.
The Web Developer drives the online presentation of the International Space Station National Laboratory brand, displaying aesthetically pleasing, effective, and consistent content.
The Web Developer oversees website performance and functionality, versioning, and releases and is responsible for overall site security and ongoing maintenance, working closely with IT and external web server support when necessary.
This position will report to the Manager of Marketing and Communications and support departments, campaigns, projects, and other activities that employ this unique research platform provided by the International Space Station National Laboratory.
Responsibilities (not all inclusive)
- Collaborate with team members and departments to manage the redesign of the current website, creating a unique and memorable user experience
- Optimize existing web pages, build new pages and templates, and evolve existing web content to consistently reflect organizational goals and objectives, driving the website purpose, function, and long-term strategy of the main site plus other properties:
- Ensure that all web properties are search engine optimized and in line with web best practices to boost both organic site traffic and online reputation
- Implement web analytics, tagging, and tracking of relevant actions, and reporting on user interactions to advance future content and expand the organization's reach
- Develop new site features, tools, apps, email templates, landing pages, and web forms in response to evolving user needs
- Establish policies, procedures, and best practices around site technical infrastructure, maintenance, and content management
- Research emerging technologies and services that may enhance the web experience and make recommendations to management, including identifying deficiencies and bugs
- Manage web hosting and DNS
- Assist with other marketing and communications activities, as needed
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in web development or related field
- Full stack LAMP developer and forward-thinking user-focused UX professional with solid knowledge of web marketing standards, practices, tools, and trends
- Experience in WordPress and related plug-ins and coding
- An understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress, and jQuery, as well as CSS and JavaScript frameworks/libraries
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Experience with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
Desired Skills and Knowledge
- 5+ years of experience in web design & development
- Experience with project management tools
- Working with third-party APIs such as Salesforce and Google.
