Conor McGregor is €1.5m richer after he backed Nate Diaz to beat Jorge Masvidal in their boxing match on Sunday morning.

McGregor and old foe Diaz are no strangers to some tense exchanges after meeting twice in the octagon, but the Dubliner was happy to put a huge stake on his rival to win the bout.

Ahead of the bout, McGregor revealed he played $500,000 (€460,000) on Diaz to win the fight and is now €1.5m richer courtesy of the victory.

The former UFC stars Diaz and Masvidal swapped the Octogan for a boxing ring as the pair faced off almost five years on from their clash at UFC 244. On that occasion Gamebred recorded victory via doctor stoppage as he exacted the more damaging blows across three rounds to be handed the BMF title by the Rock.

The Florida native carried more power on Saturday night but was unable to stop Diaz exacting his revenge. The 39-year-old, fighting in his second professional boxing bout after a debut defeat to Jake Paul in 2023, claimed a majority win at Anaheim's Honda Center in California.

It was a back-and-forth fight but Diaz's trademark pressure appeared to give him the edge as he pulled off a 97-93, 98-92, 95-95 majority decision win over his rival. That saw McGregor claim a hefty payday after placing a bet on Diaz, the first person to earn a victory over him in the UFC, to win.

McGregor faced Diaz twice and has long threated to make a trilogy bout but with time ticking on both men's careers it is looking increasingly unlikely. The Notorious recently pulled out of his June 29 bout against Michael Chandler due to injury and has not fight in three years.
