Former English darts ace Colin Lloyd has shared his thoughts on the recent spat between Peter Wright and Michael Smith during a World Cup of Darts press conference.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Love the Darts podcast, Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd confessed he "loved" the exchange before their semi-final showdown, reports the Express.

Sky Sports presenter Michael Bridge delved into the duo's 'fight', asserting that Wright's jibes at Smith were all in good fun, with "no serious malice" intended.

Wright had cheekily questioned Luke Humphries about the weight on his shoulders, hinting that he was 'carrying' Smith to the World Cup final. Smith hit back later, pointing out that Wright had been 'carrying' the Premier League by propping up the rest of the table for the season.

Bridge said: "There's one thing you'd never do is rule any of those two out. Look, they're serial winners, they are winners - they don't like to see the younger lads winning.

"And of course look, England were the clear favourites and justifiably so. They had a little bit of fun at the end of the press conference and there's nothing wrong with that at all."

When show host Emma Paton quizzed Lloyd on whether he enjoyed Wright and Smith's brief clash, he gave a candid reply.

Lloyd simply stated: "Listen, it's all part and parcel of the game, I loved it. Long may it continue!"

Smith and Humphries triumphed over their Scottish opponents Wright and Gary Anderson with an 8-4 victory in the semi-finals, before clinching the World Cup of Darts title against Austria.

England secured a record-breaking fifth title and their first since 2016 after defeating Austria 10-6 in the World Cup of Darts final.
