FT: Dublin 0-22 Tipperary 2-27

FT: Galway 4-31 Westmeath 0-12

There were two clashes in Division 1 of the Allianz Hurling League to look forward to on Sunday afternoon.

First up, Galway opened their league campaign by welcoming Westmeath to Pearse Stadium in Salthill for a 2pm throw-in.

When the sides met in last year’s league in Mullingar, Galway won by 4-27 to 1-12, and the Tribesmen were the heavy favourites to get off to a winning start.

And Henry Shefflin's side were always in control as they went through the gears in the second half to rack up a big score.

Tom Monaghan was impressive, while Jason Flynn bagged a brace of goals for a rampant Tribesmen side.

The later game at Parnell Park between Dublin and Tipperary promised to be a more competitive affair.

But Tipperary quickly raced into a big lead as their forward line, inspired by Gearoid O'Connor, were in a ruthless mood.

Dublin threatened to get back into the match when starting the second half but two superbly taken goals from Sean and Jake Morris were the difference in the end.
