Love/Hate star Aoibhinn McGinnity admitted she feels old re-watching the hit RTE drama a decade since their first hit the screen.

Ten years after the crime drama revolutionised Irish TV drama, the fan favourite programme is being re-run on RTE.

And while the actress, who played Trish, the wife of infamous gang boss Nidge is excited for the show to reach a brand new audience, she said she’s curious to see how it has aged in the Netflix era.

Lifting the lid on her thoughts on reliving the crime mania, she said: “It’s quite surprising how long ago it was.

“I think it’s good idea to have people watch their old favourites during a time when we’ve milked Netflix and baked our way into a food coma.

“It was good at the time, it was risky I suppose and it paid off."

She also admitted: “My first thought was that I feel quite old!

“I’m curious to see what it looks like the second time around after such a gap.

“TV has changed so much since the advent of Netflix.”

“I’m more curious what it would be like now with a bit of time passing, will it look as good or better.

“My sister was too young to watch it at the time and she’s going to watch it now which is pretty cool,” she told TV Now.

Looking back on the height of the show’s fame, the Monaghan-born actress revealed the cast had to hide scripts from fans while they were shooting season five.

She told: “Year five was mad because we had fans of the show following us around Dublin when we were filming and we had to rename the scripts in case anyone left their scripts lying around.

“It was mad. I had never experienced that myself before, so that was bananas.”

Meanwhile, recalling her first time meeting her on-screen gangster hubby, played by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, she told: “I was happy with what I did in the audition and they called me back a few hours later for a chemistry audition with Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and obviously it came more alive with Tom.

“Between the writing and the dynamic between us there was so much organic comedy within the relationship.

“I don’t mean laughing at them but the familiarity of two people like that, you can tell the relationship had gone way back.

“There were sparks of lightness and humour and that was really lovely.

“In person he [Tom] is so lovely, he is so genuine, salt of the earth and reading together it just felt right and really natural.

“We just bounced off each other.”

The actor, who is set to star in new feature film The Edge Of Chaos in July, added: “Trish is very reactive and so is Nidge.”
