Tributes have poured in for an Armagh teenager who tragically lost his life at the Cliffs of Moher last week.

On Friday, July 5, 17-year-old Lochlann Murray sadly died after falling into the water by the cliffs. Emergency services sprung into action, with crews from Rockcorry Divers and the North Coast Search and Recovery unit rushing to the scene.

The diver team began the search at around 12:30pm, and young Lochlann’s body was pulled from the water a few hours later, at around 3:30pm, to the heartbreak of his family and many friends in Crossmaglen, GalwayBeo reports.

Weather conditions along with large swells and rocks resulted in a more difficult search operation, with divers also having to worry about debris falling from the cliffs above. Lochlann's body was subsequently taken to the Coast Guard station in Doolin, Clare.

Both Lochlann and his family had been heavily involved in their local boxing club, who expressed their "heartfelt condolences to the family", while local GAA club Crossmaglen Rangers said they felt the family's "deep loss".

"We will remember Lochlann and the Murray family in our prayers," the club's spokesperson stated.

One family friend wrote online: "It's heartbreaking to lose such a beautiful young son and brother in such tragic circumstances. My deepest condolences to all his family. I'm thinking and praying for you all at this difficult time."

Young Lochlann’s funeral will take place on Thursday, July 11 at St Brigid's Church Glassdrummond, with requiem mass at 11am. Burial will take place afterwards in Creggan Cemetery.

His funeral notice describes him as the beloved son of Jodi and Kieran, the cherished grandson of Lochlann and Maeve Murray and Jean and the late Bill Viau, as well as a dear nephew. May he rest in peace.
