Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman was rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ following a collision between a car and a lorry in Louth on Tuesday.

Gardaí and emergency services were rushed to the scene of the two-vehicle collision at around 12:10pm on Tuesday afternoon, which occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth.

The female driver of the car, aged in her 50’s, was conveyed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for treatment of serious injuries.

The male driver of the lorry, aged in his 40’s, was conveyed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, for medical examination. No other injuries were reported at the time.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry, which occurred on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth today, Tuesday 9 July, at approximately 12.10pm.”

They added: “Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford road, Ballymascanlan, Co. Louth, today, Tuesday 9 July 2024, between 11.30am and 12.30pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
