Gardaí are probing the death of a man in rural Co Kerry.

The body of the man, who was in his 60s, was found at a property in Duagh, near Listowel in the north of the county on Saturday afternoon.

Sources say there was initially no suspicion of foul play – but officers are waiting on the results of a post mortem which is due to take place on Tuesday.

The man’s remains have now been moved to University Hospital Kerry for that post mortem and the scene has been preserved for a forensic examination.

Gardaí have confirmed a full investigation is underway.

A Garda spokesperson told us: "Gardaí in Kerry are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a man in Listowel, on Saturday, 30th December 2023.

"At approximately 3:00pm, the body of a man in his 60s was discovered in a residential property in Duagh, Listowel, Co. Kerry.

"He was pronounced deceased at the scene and was later removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry where a post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday, 2nd January.

"The scene remains preserved to allow for a technical and forensic examination to be conducted. The office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.

"The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of further investigations in the case."
