Uhh … Meghan Markle’s Friends Claim She Actually Named Her Son, Archie, After Her Dead Cat
Umm … WTF? Meghan Markle’s friends claim that her newborn son, Archie, was not a tribute to one of Princess Diana’s ancestors, but actually named after her dead cat.
Apparently, friends of the Duchess of Sussex told The Sun that her mom, Doria Ragland, adored the feline. “Doria rescued Archie, and he became an important part of the household,” they claimed. “Meghan loved playing with him, and she was always talking about him to her friends.”
They added, “It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat.”
Unfortunately, the pet reportedly died while Meghan, 37, was in college. So, why was the cat called Archie? Apparently, he was named after the Archie Comics, which she collected with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, 74.
“She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics,” the friend continued. “This could be a little nod to her dad. It was him who instilled that hobby into her — that was their activity together. He would drive her around and also surprise her with vintage volumes. She had at least 100. This may be a way to reach out to her dad, even after all that’s happened.”
Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, welcomed their first child named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on Monday, May 6. It seemed like the couple named their new child after Harry’s late mother since her ancestors were Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon and his wife, Jane, and Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll. Additionally, Archie means “truly brave” and is of German origin. Mountbatten is the last name Prince Philip adopted when he became a British citizen before he became engaged to Queen Elizabeth in 1947.
Doria was present for the birth of her grandchild, but Thomas was noticeably absent. Previously, he bashed the royal family and his own daughter in numerous interviews. However, it seems like the former lighting director had nothing but kinds words to say about their new bundle of joy. “I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” he said in a statement to The Sun on May 6. “I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family, and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity and honor.”
