Kendall Jenner Wore the Itty-Bitty Swimwear Trend That’s Secretly a Style Trick

This summer, I plan on doing things a little differently. I didn't spend nearly as much time at the beach as I would have liked last year; that’s why I’ll pretty much be living in my swimwear by the water for the next three months. Those who know me know that I have been a sucker for a good one-piece or high-waisted bottom (I’ve tried a slew from Andie Swim). However, I’ll be switching up my swimwear style this season, and it’s all thanks to Kendall Jenner.

Jenner took to Instagram to share a few photos of herself lounging on a boat, looking as chic as ever in a black two-piece that featured teeny-tiny bottoms with side string ties and a matching triangle top. She loosely tied a scarf around her hair and rounded out her boat ensemble with simple black sunglasses.

After seeing Jenner’s photos, I felt  propelled to wear an iconic and enduring two-piece style—despite never having worn one before. While my swimwear taste usually leans more modest and comfy, I guess that’s the power of Jenner (or, maybe it’s the confidence that comes with the fact that I just turned 30). Whatever the reason, I'm officially trading my one-pieces for skin-baring, itty-bitty string bikinis like Jenner.

Jenner’s bikini isn’t just sexy—it’s also a practical way to avoid those annoying and confusing tan lines. (We’ve all been there.) In fact, you can simply untie the sides and you’ll have an even color from your feet to hips. Aside from its sexy nature and practical design, there’s another reason string bikinis have been a favorite forever: They also secretly elongate your legs. 

Kourtney Kardashian’s stylist spilled this style trick to Poosh a few years back, saying that bikinis with ties are a "​​secret trick to making your legs look so much longer by just raising the hip!" Sounds pretty easy, right? Right. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to step outside of my comfort zone and wear something spicier and, well, stringier this summer.
