Wow Bao has Steaming Success — Quadrupling Sales on Instacart

Wow Bao is a fast-casual Asian concept started in 2003 by Lettuce Entertain You in Chicago’s iconic Water Tower Place. In addition to several storefronts, the omni-channel brand is now in nearly 700 virtual restaurants across the U.S., and more than 6,000 grocery stores. Wow Bao is available in airports, universities, hotels, e-commerce sites, and even hot-food vending machines. Wow Bao is famous for its steamed bao, potstickers, dumplings, rice, and noodle bowls.

Wow Bao’s Growth Story

Wow Bao has undergone significant growth recently. With approximately 300 retail partners in 2023, they started 2024 with over 6,000 and their plans and projections show that growing to more than 12,000 by the end of the year.

Advertising on Instacart has contributed to Wow Bao’s success. The brand began advertising on Instacart in October 2023 and has since quadrupled sales on the platform. Enjoying a productive relationship, Wow Bao and their Instacart reps have ongoing strategy sessions to determine how to best advertise and position the products.

“We’ve found our customers are eager for grocery delivery options that enable them to get Wow Bao through the quickest, most seamless channel,” said Geoff Alexander, Wow Bao’s president and CEO. “Instacart fills that need.”

What’s Next – More Expansion, Products

Wow Bao plans to announce more retail partners throughout 2024, as well as the addition of several new products to its grocery line. These include Soup Dumplings, Ginger Chicken Potstickers, and several new flavors of its signature Bao – all ready in just seconds from the microwave or minutes from the steamer.
