Direct Marketing
The Unsolicited Communications Regulations sit alongside the data protection law in relation to direct marketing activities.
Whilst the data protection law gives people the right to object to direct marketing in all its forms, the Unsolicited Communications Regulations give people specific privacy rights in relation to electronic communications and restrict the making of unsolicited marketing communications to individuals.
The Unsolicited Communications Regulations provide:
- rights for individuals;
- obligations on organisations; and
- investigation and enforcement powers for the Information Commissioner.
