How to request information
Rights to request information are set out in:
- The data protection law
- The Freedom of Information Act 2015
- The Code of Practice on Access to Government Information (updated 2016)
How you make a request will depend on the information you are seeking:
I want information about me
If you want to ask for information about yourself, you must make a subject access request under the Data Protection law.
I want public information
If you want to ask for information held by public authorities, government departments or bodies then, depending on the body, the age of the information, or your residency status, you will need to make a request under either the Freedom of Information Act or the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information.
