How the Information Commissioner handles complaints
The Information Commissioner deals with complaints made under the provisions of the:
- Data Protection Act
- Unsolicited Communications Regulations
- Freedom of Information Act
- Code of Practice on Access to Government Information
The matters that can be considered, the process that is followed and the regulatory actions that can be required, vary with the legislation.
Outcome achievement times vary, but the Information Commissioner hopes to finalise complaints within 3 - 6 months. The complainant will be advised of any undue delay.
