Morris E. Hammonds, 88, Ingalls, despite hoping he’d live to be 100, peacefully passed away July 5th at his memory care home of the last 3 years after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. He was born March 5, 1936, at his home in Indianapolis to Claude and Blanche (Hancock) Hammonds.

While growing up, his family didn’t have much but memories were made. If he wasn’t fighting with 3 brothers and sister, he was riding his bike or working on a soapbox derby car. Moe left school and worked in the grocery business for several years, first starting at Standard Grocery, moving to Richard’s Market Basket, then opened Moe’s Red & White. After serving his country in the U.S. Army (stationed in Germany), he married the love of his life Phyllis Hammonds on June 4th, 1964. Two children followed. Later in life, Moe worked in pest control at PESCO, then Baxter’s. Moe attended Faith United Methodist Church. He loved his wife, children, friends, auto racing, wrestling, traveling, going out to eat, and the Indiana Pacers.

Moe is survived by daughter Cherie (David) Reeves; son Anthony (Rebecca) Hammonds; grandchildren Brittany (Tyler Hutcheson) Reeves, Matthew Reeves, Grace, Drake and Kendall Hammonds, brothers Larry (Kathy) Hammonds and Bob (Marylyn) Hammonds. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Hammonds, brother George Hammonds and sister Inez Hammonds.

Services: 11:00 am on Fri, July 12, 2024, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Calling: 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial: Marion National Cemetery.
