After the Peacock series was first announced in 2022, Fuller and A24 parted ways "for reasons beyond our control."
"It's all about finding a home for it," Mikkelsen said of the Bryan Fuller-created prequel series to "Silence of the Lambs," adding, "but that's nothing concrete out there now."
Fuller's feature directorial debut will see the creator work with Mikkelsen for the first time since "Hannibal" ended in 2015.
Titled "Crystal Lake," the A24-backed show will be a prequel to the iconic slasher film franchise.
Bryan Fuller, who wrote for "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Deep Space Nine" before co-creating "Discovery," traces the franchise's LGBTQ history.
The creator also said a possible "Hannibal" Season 4 could further explore LGBTQ themes: "There's a lot more story to be told."

The Kickstarter campaign for the artwork book met its goal in 15 minutes.
The "Hannibal" team all wanted a gay kiss but knew it was "too obvious" to successfully pull off.
"The greater the breaks between seasons, the more people become followers," the actor says of his cult favorite TV classic.
The network preferred casting John Cusack or Hugh Grant over Mikkelsen.
