The American Pavilion, the organization known for producing educational programming and events at the Cannes Film Festival each year, is expanding its presence into Australia this fall at the second annual SXSW Sydney.

Applications are now open for the SXSW Sydney edition of the American Pavilion Worldwide Student Program, an educational intensive that gives students from a variety of disciplines an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Australian branch of the multipronged media festival. In addition to receiving access to SXSW programming, attendees will participate in exclusive conversations with thought leaders, networking events, and programming highlighting Sydney’s rich cultural heritage.

The program is set to run October 13-21, parallel to SXSW Sydney, which runs October 14-20. American Pavilion has previously run the Worldwide Student Program at the Cannes, Venice, and Toronto film festivals and the flagship Austin edition of SXSW.

“The American Pavilion Worldwide Student Program is designed to provide the next generation of entertainment industry professionals with real-world educational and career enhancing experiences,” Michael Bremer, senior director for student programs for American Pavilion, said in a statement. “Our extension to SXSW in Sydney greatly reinforces how today’s students are poised to be tomorrow’s leaders across multiple global entertainment platforms and countries. It’s a testament to the program that many of its esteemed alumni are now respected directors, producers, writers, agents, managers and lawyers, as well as marketing, creative, production and business executives.”

Returning for its second year in October, SXSW Sydney marks the first major international expansion of the SXSW brand. The festival has also announced plans to produce an SXSW event in London in June 2025.

The American Pavilion is owned by IndieWire’s parent company Penske Media, which is also a stakeholder in SXSW. Students interested in attending the American Pavilion Worldwide Student Program at SXSW Sydney 2024 can find more information here.
