Robbie Keane says it’s a “good feeling” to have landed the first trophy of his managerial career.

Keane’s Maccabi Tel Aviv side claimed the Toto Cup, Israel’s second cup competition, by beating Maccabi Haifa in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night, Keane’s first success as coach.

"I am delighted for the players, with the hard work they’ve put in since the day I walked in the building,” Keane said after the game. “I am happy for them as I see how much they want it and how much they are desperate to succeed, it’s a good feeling for them.

"It’s important to beat the team that have been champions for three years and have won a lot of stuff and for the players, psychologically, they know they can beat them. That’s a bigger plus for me, we know we can beat big teams.”

Keane’s side are on form, just one defeat in 18 games in all competitions as they are top of their domestic league and they face Gent in the playoff round of the Europa Conference League next month.
