As Romain Ntamack weaved his magic, dancing his way through the La Rochelle defence en route to scoring a stunning last-gasp try to clinch the Top 14 title for Toulouse, you couldn’t help but be excited about his potential to light up France’s home World Cup.

It was a moment of sheer brilliance from Ntamack, who five minutes earlier had kicked a penalty dead before he was almost pinged for holding on in front of his own posts after he had attempted to run the ball from deep, in the hope of overturning a four-point deficit.
