The Big Tech Show: EV sales drop for the first time in Ireland – is this the best time to buy electric?

The Big Tech Show

Adrian Weckler

Why have EV sales begun to fall? Are people still concerned with range? And how will this hit the resell value?

This week on the Big Tech Show, Adrian is joined by Derek Reilly, founder of Nevo and the EV Ireland YouTube Channel to discuss why the EV sales in the country have dropped off.

Last month sales figures showed for the first time a fall in monthly electric car sales of 15. 5% when compared to February of 2023.

Derek pointed out that the early adopters have committed to the EV market and bought an electric vehicle, but the mass market is still worried about range and access to charging points.

The founder of Nevo hastened to add that the media spin on EVs hasn’t been good as reported issues with estimated range and lack of infrastructure are affecting consumer sentiment.

Finally, the electic vehicle expert ran through the best new EVs hitting the market. The Renault 5 is coming to the Irish market towards the end of the year, all electric and a claimed range of 400 kilometres. Derek didn’t have an Irish price but forecasted that it will cost around €27,000.
