Volkswagen has just revealed the new ID.7 Tourer – a large electric estate with a lot of room.

It has space for five people and up to 605 litres of luggage – but when you fold the back seats, boot capacity extends to 1,714 litres.

With expected ranges of up to 685 kilometres, it will be produced with the ID.7 fastback saloon and the ID.4 SUV at the brand’s electric mobility plant in Emden, Germany.

And it will compete for buyers with the similarly sized Passat estate and probably the Arteon shooting brake.

Pre-sales for Europe are scheduled to start quite soon.

There are significant changes from the fastback ID.7 saloon at the rear with the long roof line a striking design element.

There will be two different batteries, with the largest designed for a max charging capacity of up to 200 kW at DC quick-charging stations.

That means the battery can be recharged from 10pc to 80pc in under 30 minutes.
