Tension rises as World Car of the Year shortlist is revealed

The three finalists for the World Car of the Year awards have been announced.
The competitors for the overall award are the BYD Seal/Atto 4, Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30.
There are several other award categories.
The World Luxury Car contenders are BMW 5 Series/i5, Mercedes E-Class and Mercedes EQE SUV.
The World Performance Car final trio are the BMW M2, BMW XM and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
In the world electric vehicle final are the BMW i5, the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. World Urban Car finalists are the BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX and Volvo EX30.
And the World Car Design of the Year will come from the Ford Bronco, Ferrari Purosangue and Toyota Prius
More than 100 World Car jury members from 29 countries, including the Irish Independent’s motoring editor, selected the finalists by secret ballot.
The jurors’ votes were then tabulated by KPMG. The winners will be announced at the New York Motor show on March 27.
