Latest Mercedes now covers more than 800km on one charge

The Mercedes-Benz EQS

It’s not every day you get an extra 82 kilometres added to your electric car and push its range above the 800km mark, but that’s what Mercedes has done with its large electric flagship, the EQS.

Due to an increased battery capacity (up from 108.4kWh to 118 kWh), the maximum claimed range of the EQS 450+ is now more than 800km. That’s a lot of driving on one charge.

The company says it has responded to market and customer feedback more quickly than ever and is adding numerous upgrades as a result.

As well as more range, there’s a new radiator cover and an upright Mercedes star on the front bonnet. It looks better than the current front.

Interesting, that, because electric car drivers can often benefit from high levels of recuperation (by lifting off the accelerator to slow down generates energy that can be stored in the battery). That means brake discs are used less frequently than in a car with an internal combustion engine (ICE).

So, Mercedes is planning a special function that will maintain the brake system by automatically applying the pads to the discs from time to time.

The EQS recuperation level has been increased because they can recover more energy and therefore help travel farther on longer range.

Inside, there’s increased rear-seat space and comfort with the Extended Rear Luxury Lounge Pack.

The MBUX Hyperscreen is now standard on the EQS.
