‘In 2022, I’m looking forward to some exciting openings, a few new Michelin stars and hopefully brighter days for Irish restaurants’

After two terrible years in a row, we can only hope there are better days ahead for the Irish restaurant industry. Sadly, though, it seems inevitable there will be casualties. Some of the restaurants currently propped up by government supports will simply not be viable when those are removed.

While restaurants will always come and go as part of the natural cycle, the restrictions imposed at the end of last year mean that even the best businesses are facing into the traditionally quiet months of January and February without the cushion of those December reserves. It’s time to show your favourites some love in whatever form you can, whether that’s by buying a voucher, or ordering takeaways and meal kits. They need your support.
