Bill Linnane: Want to inject frisson into your marriage? Try navigating the Red Cow on a road trip to Dublin

All organisations need to step away from the office once in a while and have a team building day. It doesn’t really matter whether you’re a senior partner in one of the big four or a junior partner in the SME that is my marriage, you need to take the team away from the hamster wheel and do something to fire up their imaginations.

Like all married couples, my wife and I are a slightly wonky partnership but we work as more of a relay team most of the time: one is sprinting around with a boot full of shopping and a car full of kids; then they burst in the door, shout a load of information in the other person’s face about who has eaten, who needs to change, who is to have their Playstation taken off them, who has to go where next and collapse in a heap while the other parent takes over and takes off at speed. But you still need to run a three-legged race once in a while where you are forced to work together to achieve your goal, be that assembling bunk beds from Ikea or, in our most recent office away day, trying to understand Dublin’s road network.
