A landlord who claimed he was “railroaded” by the rental watchdog after it ruled he illegally evicted a mother and daughter has been ordered to pay €18,500 in compensation plus legal costs.

Colin O’Sullivan (46), of Carrigillihy, Union Hall, Skibbereen, Co Cork, had tried to argue the Residential Tenancies Board’s (RTB) process was “shocking” and “unfair” because he did not have legal representation during two separate hearings. Mr O’Sullivan also claimed the procedure was flawed as he attended both cases by a phone call while sitting in his van.
