State pays €1.5m over the odds for Dowth property

The State ended up paying €11m for a country estate to create a new national park despite a valuation that said the market value of the property might be up to €1.5m lower.

The purchase of Dowth Demesne in Meath was announced by the Government last autumn, with the State the only bidder for the 550ac property.
