‘RTÉ claimed squatter’s rights on my land’ – Cork landowner

The Canty family in West Cork claim that they own the land on which a lucrative transmission mast was built, and say the State broadcaster made them a ‘peanuts’ offer of compensation. RTÉ’s transmission arm say the land is legally theirs

A Cork landowner has found himself in a dispute with RTÉ’s transmission network arm over the ownership of a piece of land that hosts a lucrative transmission mast.

The Canty family, who claim rightful ownership of the land, allege that RTÉ Transmission Network, now called 2RN, has unjustly claimed adverse possession, also known as squatter’s rights, while profiting significantly from the mast’s operations without providing them with any compensation.
