Cattle pens should have at least two emergency exit points, according to a coroner’s court recommendation being sent to the Health and Safety Authority following a case where an elderly farmer was killed by his bull.

Coroner for South and West Cork, Frank O’Connell, said he would be contacting the HSA with the recommendation arising from the case of Joseph Shorten, whose body was found yards from an “agitated” Hereford bull that was part of a herd about to undergo a cattle test in April last year.
