We all know someone who is brilliant at applying for grants. In Ireland, these people are usually viewed with begrudging admiration.

Over the years, I’ve met plenty of farmers and have found that in general you can divide them into two camps: the begrudgers who will sit on a fence that is probably crumbling beneath them; and those who will get off the fence and probably apply for a grant to help fix it.
