We have weaned the bull calves. It is an event I approach with a mix of apprehension and hope, because this is the first time that we get to get a good look at the calves on their own as a group away from the cows.

So it is a barometer of our breeding policy. What we are interested in at this stage is the performance of the group; the three points on which we assess them are: average weight; quality, ie shape; and uniformity.
