The demeanour of auctioneers, farmers and mart managers has improved considerably. There was widespread optimism and humour over the weekend, where a week ago conversations were dour, dominated by the incessant rain.

That said, the forecast for this week is a mixture of sunny spells and showers, but as many in the trade acknowledged, “at least it’s more April-like”.
