For the majority of Irish farmers, the idea of performing a caesarean section on a cow is fraught with stress — it is considered a last resort.

Yet on the farm of Thibault and Aurélie Desmedts near Brussels, the procedure is routine: every calf in their pedigree Belgian Blue herd is delivered via caesarean.
