Friday

PARANORMAL: THE VILLAGE THAT SAW ALIENS

BBC3, 9pm & 9.30pm

If aliens really do exist, say the sceptics, we’d surely have seen some by now. This lively six-part series, packaged in double bills, visits the Welsh village of Broad Haven where, in 1977, 14 schoolboys all claimed to have seen a UFO in the playground — and all drew pictures of it that were remarkably similar.

Over the following year, there were numerous sightings along the coastline. Reporter Sian Eleri, a confirmed sceptic, investigates the story and gets access to the previously unseen files of the late ufologist Randall Jones Pugh.

CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION

Disney+

A new 10-part run of the dark crime drama kicks off with a triple bill. David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and his FBI Behavioural Analysis Unit investigate the serial killer network formed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

WELCOME TO WREXHAM

Disney+

The third season of the documentary series reaches its finale, as Wrexham FC aim to win promotion to League One. You may already know how it worked out.

THE BIG CIGAR

Apple TV+

It’s also farewell time for this true-ish, rather underpowered six-part drama about Black Panthers founder Huey P Newton (Andre Holland), who tries to stay one step ahead of the FBI as he heads from Mexico to Cuba.

EURO 2024

RTÉ2, 7pm

Peep! The big kick-off is here as host nation Germany face Scotland. With Ireland uninvolved yet again, we’ll be pinning our allegiance to the in-form Scots. Can Steve Clarke’s men pull off an upset against one of the competition’s hot favourites?

SISTER BONIFACE MYSTERIES

Drama, 9pm

The knowingly daft mystery series, which makes Midsomer Murders seem like The Wire, sees the sleuthing nun (Lorna Watson) investigating the murder of an unpopular toyshop owner, who appears to have been stabbed by a doll.

THE WALKING DEAD: THE ONES WHO LIVE

Sky Max, 9pm

The latest offering from the seemingly indestructible zombie franchise hits episode three. Jadis reveals her Civic Republic Military allegiance to Rick, who is more preoccupied with the idea of finally escaping.

Saturday

EURO 2024

RTÉ2, from 1.30pm

The tournament gets into full swing today with three matches to enjoy. Hungary, who topped their group, face Switzerland, who finished second in theirs, at the Cologne Stadium. Kick-off is at 2pm.

Then it’s on to Spain versus Croatia from Olympiastadion in Berlin at 5pm, followed by reigning champions Italy v Albania from BVB Stadion Dortmund at 8pm.

DOCTOR WHO

BBC1, 6.30pm

First of the two-part finale, concluding next Saturday, of Ncuti Gatwa’s triumphant first season as the Doctor, who digs into Ruby’s (Millie Gibson) past and gets more than he expected. Old allies Unit and former companion Mel (Bonnie Langford) get involved.

'Rebus'. Photo: Mark Mainz

REBUS

BBC2, 9.10pm

Due to the football, the detective drama switches to BBC2 for its penultimate episode (as does Casualty, which precedes this at 8.20pm). Both Rebus (Richard Rankin) and his brother Michael (Brian Ferguson) are both equally motivated to destroy Cafferty (Stuart Bowman).

LATER . . .WITH JOOLS HOLLAND

BBC2, 9.55pm

Richard Hawley is the sole veteran tonight, performing songs from his latest album and chatting to Jools about his musical Standing at the Sky’s Edge. Making their first appearances are Californian pop star Remi Wolf, Yorkshire dance act Nia Archives, American singer/songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr and Sahra Halgan from Somaliland.

Sunday

EURO 24

RTÉ2, from 1.30pm

Maybe I’m in the minority but I have always felt that the Euros, and for that matter the World Cup, are more fun when England are involved. Their match against Serbia is the final game of the day, at 8pm.

Before that there’s Poland v Netherlands at 2pm and Slovenia v Denmark at 5pm.

Secret France with Dick and Angel

SECRET FRANCE WITH DICK AND ANGEL

Channel 4, 7pm

Most things billed as “secret” in travel shows aren’t secret at all. Here, though, the description is deserved when Dick and Angel Strawbridge find an underground bar tucked away behind a toilet in Clermont-Ferrand — not the kind of place you usually find advertised in the tourist brochures.

NORTHERN SOUL AT THE PROMS

BBC4, 8.30pm

The combination of the live football and the thinning-out of the schedules in the summer means there’s quite a few repeats this weekend. This concert from last July, featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra and assorted singers belting out 30 less famous Motown songs, is a gem.

EILEEN ATKINS REMEMBERS

BBC4, 10pm

To mark her 90th birthday, the actress and writer recalls two career highlights, which are screened immediately after: the 1978 caper She Fell Among Thieves and a 1997 episode of Talking Heads.

'We're Here'. Photo: Sky

WE’RE HERE

Sky Max, 11pm

New run of the American reality series featuring former Drag Race contestants visiting small towns to counter the local anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry. Brave, to say the very least.
