Massachusetts’s favorite sons, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, have a new wicked pissah of a movie in store for fans. The Oscar-winning writing duo behind “Good Will Hunting” and a lifetime of friendship will co-star and co-produce the crime thriller Rip for Netflix. Joe Carnahan, known for high testosterone pictures like “Smokin’ Aces” and “The Grey,” will direct the film based on his own original screenplay.
Plot details beyond the title and “crime thriller” description are not yet known.

After eight long years since its triumphant reign in cinemas, the mighty saga of Ben Affleck’s action-thriller, “The Accountant,” rises again, casting its shadow upon Netflix. Theatrically released back in 2016, the electrifying action-thriller introduces Ben Affleck as the enigmatic Christian Wolff, a maestro of mathematics and a certified accountant with a knack for straightening out financial chaos in the shadowy realms of crime. Released back in 2016 and starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, John Lithgow, and Jean Smart, The Accountant was a major hit for Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor. The number of feature films receiving tax credits to shoot in California are on the rise, with some productions spending big bucks to nab major incentives along the way.
Led by The Mandalorian & Grogu, five studio projects were selected to participate in California’s Film and TV tax credit program, the state’s film office announced on Monday. The Lucasfilm title will get $21.8 million in tax credits, becoming just the fifth movie in the history of the program to get at least $20 million. Three of those films were selected in the past two years and were chosen in consecutive quarters.
Disney was the biggest beneficiary in this round of incentives, with titles from the entertainment giant conditionally receiving $28.1 million to shoot in the state. The upcoming Lucasfilm theatrical release “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is one of 15 films to secure an estimated $61 million in 2024 production tax incentives through California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
The California Film Commission touted Disney’s “Mandalorian & Grogu” as the biggest-budget movie to ever qualify for state’s tax program, which distributes $330 million annually in state tax credits to TV and film productions. The 15 films in total — a mix of independent and major studio productions — are projected to inject nearly $408 million in production spending into the state’s economy. “Mandalorian” alone is expected to generate $166 million in spending in the state. The Cfc estimates the production activity across the 15 films will generate jobs for an estimated 2,252 crew members, 598 cast members and 16,800 background performers poised to work across a combined 579 filming days.

Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant brought Ben Affleck in a different kind of action role. The film ended its run with a worldwide total of $155 million and a sequel was announced, but struggled to gain traction. The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a mathematical savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town Cpa office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. The film sported an impressive cast that included Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow, J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick and Jeffrey Tambor.

Back in 2021, O’Connor appeared on the CinemaBlend podcast where he revealed that he had just closed the deal for the sequel.

One of the most under appreciated movies that has come out in the last five years is Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant. This is one movie that should’ve had a much larger audience, but sadly, not too many people saw it. That’s why it didn’t make nearly as much money as it should have, which is unfortunate. Typically speaking, that means it shouldn’t be getting a sequel. I personally thought that was disappointing, but at least we got the movie. Does The Accountant even need a sequel? After the way the first one ended, I would say not exactly, since the
