Mr. Hughes, one of the villains in the movie, shares his name with John Hughes, who created the "Home Alone" series and also wrote the first three movies. Also the fourth "Home Alone" movie is based on Hughes' characters.
Like "Home Alone 3" (1997), this one doesn't have Kevin McCallister as the main character. Also, like "Home Alone 4" (2002), the main character is not left home "alone", but with his older sibling.
The only film in the series to not feature a character whom the protagonist initially fears, then befriends by the end.
