CBS isn’t eager for summer to end. The Eye network has opted to push its premiere week — normally held the third week of September — to mid-October, with one big exception: “Survivor.”
The landmark unscripted series is indeed CBS’ sole September “Survivor,” premiering its 47th season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Et. CBS will also air sneak peeks of two more entertainment series during the month: Newbie “Matlock,” starring Kathy Bates, will get an special early premiere on Sunday, Sept. 22, while new competition skein “The Summit” will also get a Sunday sneak, on Sept. 29.
But for the most part, CBS will wait until the week of October 14 to take the bow off its fall 2024 primetime package. In doing so, it runs the risk of competing for attention right when the presidential campaign could be at its apex.

With a Sherlock-less Watson series set to premiere at midseason and a procedural about Albert Einstein’s great-grandkid already in the works, CBS is also eyeing a crime drama that will appropriate the name of Professor Abraham Van Helsing.

Grab your magnifying glass, deerstalker hat, and pipe, fellow TV Fanatics, because a new Holmes-inspired show called Watson is coming to television screens everywhere as a midseason treat for the 2024-2025 broadcast schedule.
Interestingly, this will be the second CBS series to adapt the Sherlock stories, the first being Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson.
The upcoming series, Watson, won't take place in the same universe, but as it shares similar elements, it'll be an amazing new show for audiences who miss the 2012 series that ended after seven seasons in 2019.
Some viewers might find the premise a touch different from the usual murder mystery plot in a good Sherlock Holmes story, but don't worry -- we're here to tell you everything we know so far!

10. Sherlock Holmes (1967–1968)
Don’t get us wrong, there were many Sherlock Holmes adaptations even before this short series, but we spared the most sensitive of you the need to watch in less than 360p. Starring Erich Schellow and Paul Edwin Roth, the 1960s’ Sherlock Holmes is as classic as they come, with just six episodes — each following a different case. Watch Sherlock Holmes on Plex.
9. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (1980)
Also known as “the Soviet Sherlock Holmes,” this mini-series consists of five two-part movies following different cases. While half-a-century old, this adaptation lures you in with its unwavering faithfulness to the source material and doesn’t let go: the subtle interactions between Vasiliy Livanov and Vitali Solomin are just that good.

The original Matlock was a long-running network TV series in the 1980s and 1990s. It starred TV legend Andy Griffith as attorney Ben Matlock.
Debuting in 1986 on NBC, Matlock remained on that network until 1992, when it moved to ABC, where it remained until it wrapped up in 1995.
Matlock was a popular legal procedural created by Dean Hargrove, who was also behind the original Perry Mason.
Ben Matlock was a defense attorney who often proved his clients innocent, usually in dramatic courtroom moments.
Since early 2023, a reboot of Matlock has been in the works, not on the original show's networks but on CBS.
The other big change is that the Matlock character in this version is a woman, played by Kathy Bates.

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most sarcastic and incredibly humorous celebrities in the entertainment industry holding an inquisitively extensive knowledge of almost everything. In short, he is an impeccably witty genius and faces no problem whatsoever in bringing those very skills to light through his characters on the big screens as well — take his version of Iron Man, for instance.

But while his remarkable performance as the Marvel superhero has launched him to such heights of extraordinary fame that his name is used synonymously with Tony Stark’s, that isn’t the only time he immaculately showcased his brilliant chops. This stands after watching him humiliate Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly in his $524 million Sherlock Holmes — one that would put even Iron Man to shame!

As heartbroken as So Help Me Todd fans might be right now, they may find a silver lining in some recent news concerning one of the show’s cast members.
Following the series’ definite cancellation that couldn’t be prevented even by fans’ grand online campaign that had been calling out CBS for weeks, So Help Me Todd’s Inga Schlingmann, who portrayed the leading character’s ex-girlfriend Susan on the ditched show, has landed a big role in Watson, CBS’ upcoming series described as a medical drama with detective elements.
Watson initially came around at the expense of the network’s other successful shows, including So Help Me Todd, as CBS needed to make room in its tight schedule for the new arrivals.

Exclusive: A month and a half after the painful cancellation of So Help Me Todd, main cast member Inga Schlingmann has been tapped as a series regular on another CBS procedural, the upcoming Watson, headlined by Morris Chestnut. That is both good news for So Help Me Todd fans, as it keeps a piece of the show on CBS, and bad news, since it makes the series’ end permanent. There was never a realistic chance but fans had been holding out hope that So Help Me Todd could find a home elsewhere.
Also set as a lead in Watson is Eve Harlow (The Night Agent). Both Schlingmann and Harlow are extending their relationship with Watson producer CBS Studios coming off So Help Me Todd and the final season of Star Trek: Discovery, respectively.
In addition to Chestnut, the two join a cast member from another CBS procedural, S.W.A.

Exclusive: Rochelle Aytes is leaving S.W.A.T. as a series regular. In a quick turnaround, she has joined another CBS procedural, the upcoming medical drama Watson headlined by Morris Chestnut.
In a surprising move, CBS last month renewed S.W.A.T. for an eighth season having previously canceled the show after six seasons before reversing that decision to pick up a seventh and final season. As new deals had to be made with the cast, Aytes, who plays Nichelle Carmichael, was not invited back as a series regular but the producers want to keep her in the S.W.A.T. universe as Hondo’s (Moore) wife and mother to their child, and the hope is that she will recur next season.
In a classic “when one door closes” situation, shortly after Aytes became available, she was approached for a series regular role on Watson, which is produced by CBS Studios.

Balance is key in the world of “The Yin-Yang Master”. Light and darkness, science and music, beauty and horror, the real and the unreal: none of these things can exist without the other in the fantastical works of author Baku Yumemakura, which have served as inspirations for cinema, manga, stage plays, video games and even ice skating sets! 2001's “Onmyoji” was the first big-screen outing for Yumemakura's complicated folklore figure Abe no Seimei, laying the groundwork for the celebrated yin yang master to become a popular hero for audiences around the world. With the exception of its 2003 sequel, each subsequent film exists in a vacuum, with viewers new to the lore and character able to pick up any one of them in any order and thankfully still get the full experience. The latest is Shimako Sato's “The Yin-Yang Master Zero”, a well-mounted and entertaining origin story for Abe no Seimei that creates a fine,...

Looking at the crop of new scripted series selected by the broadcast networks for 2024-25, one cannot help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of what may have been broadcast television’s greatest season ever.
The 2004-05 season introduced several genre-defying series — all but one based on original ideas — whose impact on TV storytelling is still being felt: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Office and Veronica Mars. Remarkably, one of them, Grey’s Anatomy is still around, having just been renewed by ABC for Season 21, along with another show that premiered that same season, animated comedy American Dad!.
Aside from the fact that the current economic realities of the TV business will likely never support another drama going to 21 seasons, broadcast networks will also likely never take chances on so many unconventional ideas: a sci-fi drama on a deserted island that set the tone for modern genre fare, a...

The Neighborhood universe is expanding with a second series, Crutch. Paramount+ has picked up the half-hour, multi-camera comedy headlined by Tracy Morgan. It is set in the world of the popular CBS sitcom starring Cedric the Entertainer, which has been renewed for a seventh season.
Crutch hails from Owen Smith, who penned the pilot script, and The Neighborhood‘s production companies, Cedric’s A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling TrillTV and CBS Studios.
It centers on its titular character Francois “Frank” Crutchfield (Morgan) – or “Crutch” to those who know him well – a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.
Morgan and Cedric starred together on Morgan’s TBS comedy series The Last O.G., with Cedric as a series regular on Season 1 before segueing to recurring when The Neighborhood was picked up to series.

Matlock, Georgie & Mandy, Watson, Poppa's House, Hollywood Squares: CBS Announces New 2024-25 Series
CBS has announced its full 2024-25 primetime schedule. The network has plenty of returning shows but has found timeslots for eight new ones. As has become commonplace, several of these new shows will seem a little familiar.
The previously announced Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (newly titled Young Sheldon spin-off), Matlock (reboot of the 1986-95 legal drama), NCIS: Origins (NCIS prequel), Poppa's House, The Summit, and Watson (based on Sherlock Holmes characters) will be joined by newly ordered Hollywood Squares (reboot of the classic game show). In addition, CBS has ordered Sheriff Country (a Fire Country spin-off) for the 2025-26 season.Read More…...

CBS announced not only its fall schedule, but a full lineup for the 2024-2025 broadcast season at a Los Angeles press briefing on Thursday.
As “Young Sheldon” is currently wrapping up its final season on Thursdays at 8 p.m., a headline of the slate is spinoff series “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” taking over that spot, leading into “Ghosts” at 8:30 p.m. Additionally, “Tracker” — not only the No. 1 new series of the 2023-2024 season, but the most-watched series overall — is getting an earlier position, moving from Sundays at 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Several CBS traditions remain intact. Tuesdays remain “FBI” night with the flagship series airing at 8 p.m. followed by “FBI: International” at 9 p.m. and “FBI: Most Wanted” at 10 p.m. On Mondays, “NCIS” holds onto its 9 p.m. timeslot, and after the cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” it’s 9:30 p.m. position will be taken...

CBS‘ fall 2024 lineup is going to be stacked. Joining the 18 returning shows in the fall on the network are new scripted dramas Matlock (starring Kathy Bates) and NCIS: Origins, comedies Poppa’s House (starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.) and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment), and competition show The Summit. Still to come in the midseason are new drama Watson (starring Morris Chestnut), The Amazing Race, and Hollywood Squares with Drew Barrymore as the Center Square in January as part of the new “Game Show Wednesdays” with The Price Is Right at Night and Raid the Cage. Notably, CBS will not be airing new episodes during the 10/9c time slot on Sundays during the football season (which tends to delay primetime). Watson will slot in with Tracker and The Equalizer—switching time slots next season—after the end of football. And ...

CBS today became the first broadcast network to present its fall schedule. And, in line with CBS’ new strategy for long-term development and planning, the network announced its schedule for the entire 2024-25 season. It is contingent on IATSE making a new deal with the studios to avoid a strike. At the unveiling of the schedule, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, said that they have contingency plans should a work stoppage occur but wouldn’t elaborate further. “If we need to delay, we are ready,” he said.

CBS executives were keenly aware of the elephant in the room Thursday as new co-ceo George Cheeks and entertainment president Amy Reisenbach opened their fall schedule presentation by addressing the latest rumblings in the sale process of parent company Paramount Global.
“It’s a super quiet, uneventful week for us,” Cheeks quipped as he kicked off the hourlong presentation just moments after news broke that Sony and Apollo submitted a $26 billion cash offer to buy Paramount Global.
Other than addressing morale — “we’ve all locked arms” and are “focusing on what we can control,” Cheeks said — both execs spent the press briefing at the Paramount offices in Hollywood focused on CBS and its 2024-25 schedule.
Cheeks and Reisenbach opened with a victory lap of sorts as CBS finished the strikes-impacted 2023-24 in first place, breaking a decades-old record set by the network with 16 straight season victories and 21 of the past 22 years.

While announcing its schedule for the 2024-25 TV season Thursday, CBS also got a head start on the season after that.
The network has formally greenlit Sheriff Country, a spinoff of its second-year drama Fire Country. Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Gotham) will star, reprising her role from an April Fire Country episode that set up the spinoff.
Sheriff Country won’t premiere, however, until the 2025-26 season. CBS Entertainment president told reporters Thursday that the extra time will give the network breathing room to get the show right.
“We do long-term development at CBS now,” Reisenbach said. “[The extra year] gives us plenty of time to cast it and figure out how we want to produce it. It’s a huge opportunity for us and speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing.”

It came down to the wire, but NCIS: Hawai’i ultimately didn’t make the cut for next season at CBS. The news comes days before the network is set to announce its fall schedule on May 2 and before the Season 3 finale of Hawai’i is scheduled to air on May 6. According to sources, the episode was not meant to be a series finale and includes a tease for what was to come but fans won’t be left reeling by a major cliffhanger.
The cancellation is not a complete shocker since, as Deadline has been reporting, NCIS: Hawai’i was on the bubble. Still, the outcome is surprising since an effort was made to extend the well performing drama’s run for at least an abbreviated fourth and final season, with producers agreeing to a massive budget cut and open to other concessions in order to keep the show going.

End of the Road for Two Beloved CBS Series CBS has made the tough call to cancel CSI: Vegas after its third season and So Help Me Todd following its second. The network’s decision comes amidst a roster refresh introducing new dramas like NCIS: Origins, Matlock, and Watson, challenging the continuation of less watched series. In a surprising development, despite being solid performers in the ratings, both shows have struggled in comparison with other CBS dramas this spring, both in linear and multi-platform metrics. Specifically, in the most current linear Nielsen viewership data, CSI: Vegas ranked #21 and So Help

Breaking News CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after just two. This development follows prior indicators that both shows were facing cancellation risks. Despite both series being reasonably strong in the ratings, CBS’s packed schedule and introduction of three new dramas for the 2024-25 season necessitated some tough choices. With newer ventures like NCIS: Origins, Matlock, and Watson joining the lineup, lesser-performing shows faced the axe. Viewership Dynamics The latest ratings showed CSI: Vegas at a viewership of 6.234M, while So Help Me Todd slightly lagged behind at 6.224M. These figures positioned them

After renewing 11 scripted shows for 2024-25, CBS has made its first cancellations of the spring.
The network says second-year dramedy So Help Me Todd and drama CSI: Vegas, which is in its third season, won’t return. The two shows were among just a handful of CBS scripted series whose futures were up in the air as of Friday.
CSI: Vegas is averaging about 6.4 million viewers per episode in Nielsen’s seven-day linear ratings, and So Help Me Todd draws about 6.3 million. They’re likely to be the two most watched shows to get the ax this season (not including the pre-announced end for Young Sheldon), but the bar is a bit higher at CBS — which has 12 of the top 15 scripted series since mid-February, when broadcasters rolled out their post-strike lineups — than elsewhere.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Exclusive: After bringing back CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with CSI: Vegas, CBS is looking to revive another Jerry Bruckheimer Television-produced crime procedural from the 2000s. The network is in negotiations with Warner Bros. TV for a reboot of Cold Case, which aired on CBS for seven seasons from 2003-2010, Deadline has learned. The followup comes from the series’ creator/executive producer Meredith Stiehm.
Set 15 years after the original series’ final episode, the untitled Cold Case reboot would follow a new team of tenacious detectives who investigate cold cases across the Southwest.
This is a new location as the original Cold Case was set in Philadelphia. The move would allow the potential new series to introduce a new group of characters as they tackle unsolved homicides.

CBS is firming up more of its lineup for next season.
The network has renewed its comedy Ghosts and drama Fire Country for 2024-25, picking up a fourth season of the former and a third of the latter. The two shows join the previously renewed Tracker on CBS’ roster for next season.
“Ghosts and Fire Country are proven viewer favorites on both broadcast and streaming thanks to exceptional storytelling, talented actors and an ever-growing fan base,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “We are elated to keep the momentum going and bring them back to CBS next season.”
Ghosts, from CBS Studios in association with Lionsgate Television and BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm, is the network’s second-most-watched comedy behind Young Sheldon. It’s averaging 10.2 million viewers over seven days and across all platforms, a small uptick over last season. Nielsen’s seven-day linear ratings have the show at 8.68 million viewers,...

As is appropriate for a franchise that started with The Big Bang Theory, its universe keeps expanding.
CBS has formally ordered a spinoff of Young Sheldon — itself a Big Bang prequel — that will focus on Georgie (Montana Jordan), Sheldon’s older brother, and his fiancée, Mandy (Emily Osment), as they raise their young family in Texas. The project has been in the works since January, and a straight-to-series order was expected after deals closed.
Young Sheldon executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland will continue in their roles on the new series, which will be part of CBS’ 2024-25 slate. Warner Bros. TV, Lorre’s longtime home, is producing.
The pickup of the spinoff — which will be a multicamera show, unlike the single-camera Young Sheldon — will also assure that Lorre has a series on CBS for a 22nd straight season, dating back to the debut of Two and a Half Men...
CBS has formally ordered a spinoff of Young Sheldon — itself a Big Bang prequel — that will focus on Georgie (Montana Jordan), Sheldon’s older brother, and his fiancée, Mandy (Emily Osment), as they raise their young family in Texas.
