With the release of Skeleton Crew, Jude Law‘s entry into the Star Wars universe promises to course-correct a franchise recently tarnished by The Acolyte. Directed by Jon Watts and featuring a cast of young talents, Skeleton Crew is already receiving laudatory first reactions. D23 didn't disappoint when it came to Star Wars news (you can watch the first Skeleton Crew trailer here) and it was The Mandalorian and Grogu that ultimately stole the show.
The first Star Wars movie to play in theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker will see the Disney+ characters make the leap from streaming to the big screen for an adventure it's widely believed was originally going to season 4.
However, if this newly surfaced sneak peek (via SFFGazette.com) is anything to go by, it was a smart move on Lucasfilm's part and this leaked teaser is bound to only increase excitement. Disney must be hoping the popularity of these two will result in a guaranteed box office hit and, honestly, it's hard to fault that logic.
There's not a huge amount of new footage in this trailer as shooting only started a few weeks ago, according to Jon Favreau.

Focusing on a ragtag crew of young nobodies who are thrust into an adventure across the galaxy, the cast is made up of younger characters than we’re used to in Star Wars.
Of course, our young heroes are joined by the A-list addition of Jude Law as a mysterious Jedi who looks set to give us some classic Star Wars magic. The first official trailer for Skeleton Crew debuted at D23, bringing back a forgotten Original Trilogy species, giving us plenty of ties to Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, and teasing an adorable Ortolan who threatens to topple Max Rebo’s fan-favorite status.

Star Wars goes Goonies in the first trailer for Skeleton Crew, the franchise’s latest spinoff series coming to Disney+ in December.
In the preview, which debuted at Disney’s D23 expo Friday, a bunch of space kids leave the safe-but-boring confines of their intergalactic suburb after stumbling across a hidden Jedi temple, leading them on an adventure across the galaxy.
At some point in their journey, the kids wind up behind bars with a Force-wielding figure (and maybe a Jedi?) played by Jude Law. The actor was on hand...

The modern era of the Star Wars franchise has been pretty middling, to say the least as most of the offerings have been underwhelming for fans. The theatrical trilogy that started with The Force Awakens was highly divisive with fans not necessarily jiving with the choices made with their beloved characters from the original trilogy.

For a long time now, Star Wars fans have been waiting for a first proper look at Skeleton Crew – the incoming Disney+ series from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. While those lucky enough to attend 2023’s Star Wars Celebration got an early peek at the series over a year ago, the main panel at Disney's D23 Expo unveiled the first official trailer – which has also arrived online for all to see. And as has been much-reported, the show looks set to bring the Amblin vibes of ‘80s favourites like The Goonies into the galaxy far, far away, sending a group of suburban space-kids to the far reaches where they’ll encounter nefarious pirates, and Jude Law’s mysterious Jedi figure. Take a look here:
It’s a promising tease for the show, which takes place in the Mandalorian-adjacent New Republic era. And we already know it’ll feature an appearance from space pirate Veb,...

Fresh off of blowing up Hall H at Comic-Con with their announcement that Robert Downey Jr is back in the MCU (playing Doctor Doom) comes D23, the ultimate Disney fan event that just happened in Anaheim. Our man Alex Maidy was on the ground, in the audience, and sent us a blow-by-blow of the presentation, so if you missed it, we’ve got you covered.
Here are the announcements:
The First (Tiny) Peaks at Snow White & Tron: Ares revealed:
Just like they did with Comic-Con, the presentation started with a quick sizzle reel teasing some of the footage being doled out during the presentation. Most noteworthy was the fact that it contained tiny snippets of Gal Gadot in character as the Evil Queen in Snow White and a glimpse at Tron Ares (check out more about that movie Here).

We were starting to grow concerned about Lucasfilm's Amblin-inspired Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, but the first trailer for the long-awaited Disney+ series has finally been released (via SFFGazette.com) more than a year after it premiered at Star Wars Celebration.
The footage is almost identical to what was shown in London; however, that was never officially released online, and it means many of you can now finally see Jude Law's mysterious Jedi, Jod Na Nawood, in action for the first time.
Accompanying the trailer is a new poster for the series which is spearheaded by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts.
Law recently said that "first word that comes to my mind" when describing Skeleton Crew is "joyful." He also shared that "seeing children in that environment in a Star Wars environment is thrilling and very, very unique."
"It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is the name of an upcoming live-action series that will expand the Star Wars universe. The series is currently scheduled for a 2024 premiere on Disney+ and was created by the duo consisting of Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
The series will follow a group of children, most likely Force-sensitive, who will have to go on an adventure if they want to return to their home planet, from which they got lost after a strange discovery.
The story will feature a lot of similarities with children’s classics such as ‘The Goonies,’ but will be watchable for both children and adults, as there will be a similar element to the hit series ‘The Mandalorian,’ which also features an adult (Din Djarin) taking care of a baby (Grogu).

As expected, Lucasfilm used D23 to launch the first official trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Starring Jude Law, the series is being billed as a coming-of-age story set in the Star Wars universe. It centers around a young quartet, played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, who cross paths with a mysterious Jedi named Jod Na Nawood, who’s being described as a quick-witted charmer.
The trailer, while short, promises a bigger scope than other recent Star Wars series, with the look impressively cinematic. The series certainly has an impressive roaster of directors, including Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon), the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Mandalorian) and Lee Isaac Chung (Twisters).

If you've seen "The Mandalorian" and enjoyed the dynamic of a lone wanderer acting in loco parentis to a precocious wayward child, then how about a dad figure acting in loco parentis to four precocious wayward children? That's the premise of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," the upcoming Disney+ series starring Jude Law as a Jedi character called Jod Na Nawood, which just unveiled its first teaser trailer. The "Goonies"-esque premise teams Jod up with a team of young adventurers: Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Kb (Kyriana Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), and Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong).
Some of the biggest names in "Skeleton Crew" are behind the camera. The Skeleton Crew is finally coming together. Lucasflim showed off the first trailer for Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew as part of its presentation at D23 Friday, where audiences got a look at the coming-of-age series.
Skeleton Crew centers on a group of kids lost in a galaxy far, far away — as they try to make their way home. The show hails from Jon Watts, who directed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy, and Christopher Ford, Watts’ frequent collaborator. The Mandalorian duo Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni executive produce the show, which stars Jude Law and is set in the New Republic era of the Star Wars canon (or in simpler terms, the years after the Empire’s fall in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.)
A crew of top-flight directors worked on the project, including Everything Everywhere All At Once‘s Daniels and The Green Knight‘s David Lowery. The...

Disney+ has released the trailer for “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” a coming-of-age television series starring Jude Law that will debut on December 3. The show follows four kids — played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith and Ryan Kiera Armstrong — who make a strange discovery on their planet that they believe is a lost Jedi temple, but instead appears to be a crashed starship. The kids get lost in the galaxy and find themselves on an adventure, where they encounter Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood, a mysterious figure who can command the Force — but may not be all that he appears.
Law presented the trailer on Friday during Disney’s presentation of its upcoming slate at the D23 Expo. The actor called the series “a timeless adventure story in the spirit of the Amblin coming-of-age stories of the ’80s like ‘Goonies’ and ‘E.T,'” and the trailer definitely evokes the light-drenched,...

The first trailer for the new Disney+ Lucasfilm series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew dropped in the Honda Center room at Disney’s D23 in Anaheim on Friday
Jude Law came onstage and said the series harkens to the Amblin kid fantasy films of the 1980s ala The Goonies.
“I fell in love with Star Wars when I was a 10-year-old boy,” he said. “[This] series is told from the perspective of the kids.”
Skeleton Crew has its two-episode premiere December 3 on the Disney streamer.
In the clip, young kids are zipping around a space academy environment. They come across a tunnel in the woods, zip down, find a ship, fly through hyperspace, encounter big monsters and fire off turret guns. Oh, and Law plays a Jedi. It’s very young-skewing.

Tonight is the D23 Disney Entertainment panel at the event. Bob Iger took the stage and a sizzle reel was shown with clips from upcoming films and shows like “Snow White,” “Captain America: Brave New World,” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” Auliʻi Cravalho also performed a new song from the upcoming “Moana 2” film.
While the sizzle reel was apparently not to be streamed, some did get out photos.

With Marvel rolling out the return of the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU at Hall H of Comic Con a few weeks ago, expectations are at a fever pitch for the surprises in store at D23 in Anaheim this weekend. Will guests get a sneak peek at James Cameron’s next installment in the “Avatar” saga? Is footage from “Zootopia 2” or Pixar’s latest original “Elio” ready to seen? With Marvel news remaining relatively lite at Comic Con, will we hear more about some of their larger plans or even get trailers for Disney+ series like “Agatha All Along” and “Daredevil: Born Again?” The possibilities are endless and fans are itching to find out more.

We're expecting a teaser for Lucasfilm's next Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, to be released during D23 this weekend, but for now, a display spotted on the event floor gives us a first look at the show's villainous pirate gang.
As you can see, Vane - The Pirate King Gorian Shard's Nikto right-hand man from season 3 of The Mandalorian - will lead this motley crew, and he'll be joined by a Shistavanen, a Gran and a formidable looking droid with a peg-leg.
The last time we saw Vane, he had abandoned Shard and fled after an aerial battle against Din Djarin and his allies. How his new crew of space scoundrels factors into this series remains to be seen, but it's assumed that they will be pursuing the kids for some reason.
Check out the images and video at the links below.

Disney’s latest Star Wars project, The Acolyte, has sparked numerous debates since its release, facing both review-bombing and enthusiastic fan support. While much of the discussion centered on minor issues, some debates addressed significant canon-related matters.
With The Acolyte concluding after eight episodes, fans are eagerly anticipating more Star Wars content. Many franchise enthusiasts feel that the show’s climactic final episode redeemed it. Although Skeleton Crew is set to debut later this year, Lucasfilm has also confirmed that new movies are in development.
Following recent reports, Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed plans to release three Star Wars movies between 2026 and 2027. In this article, we’ll explore what this means for the future of the franchise.
As the Star Wars franchise progresses beyond The Acolyte, fans are hopeful for a second season of the show. However, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed this yet. What is confirmed is that...

Disney’s latest Star Wars project, The Acolyte, was at the center of numerous debates since its release and was, at the same time, both a victim of review-bombing and a project that received a lot of fan support. The fans loved to debate the episodes as they came out, and while a lot of debates had been focused on irrelevant issues, there were those that were related to the canon and, thus, quite relevant.
However, The Acolyte ended after eight episodes, and the fans are now eager for more Star Wars material, particularly as many franchise devotees believe that The Acolyte‘s climactic final episode managed to redeem the show. We know that Skeleton Crew is coming up next – later this year – but Lucasfilm has confirmed that some movies are in the works as well.

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want to right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Interestingly enough, Star Wars‘ hopes on the big screen now rest with The Mandalorian, the same franchise that launched the galaxy far, far away’s TV push. Out in 2026, The Mandalorian and Grogu, a continuation of the stories told in the hit Disney+ series, will be the first new Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
