Days after Paramount Global purged online content of MTV News, as well as Comedy Central, TVLand and CMT, MTV News has resurfaced on the Internet Archive. There is now a searchable collection of more than 460,000 web pages previously available on MTVNews.com now accessible on the organization’s Wayback Machine link here.
“As part of broader website changes across Paramount, we have introduced more streamlined versions of our sites. As a result, all MTV News content is being preserved in an archive,” a company spokesperson said. A source close to production tells Deadline no content has been deleted and the company is exploring how to make this important content available in a more efficient way.
After Paramount Global removed the MTV News content from the site Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine contacted Michael Alex, who founded and led MTV News’ digital group between 1994 and 2007, described the collection as “incomplete” but...

A corporate decision to scrub Comedy Central’s website of much of its content isn’t sitting well with a number of former and current Daily Show staffers.
The sites for Comedy Central and fellow Paramount-owned cable channels CMT, Paramount Network and TV Land, were largely stripped of content this week; what’s left mostly redirects users to the company’s streaming platform, Paramount+. The media conglomerate also shut down the MTV News site earlier this week.
Paramount, which is looking to cut half a billion dollars in costs amid declining profits, said the gutting of the sites was “part of broader website changes across” the company.
“We have introduced more streamlined versions of our sites, driving fans to Paramount+ to watch their favorite shows,” the company said in a statement.

Paramount Global has been clearing out its web-based video archives on multiple sites, and Comedy Central is the latest victim.
The cost-cutting measures at Paramount Global have begun. Company officials are pouring through budgetary data to find areas where they can save money, and this week they found one. As first reported by Late Nighter, Paramount has removed the large library of video clips from the Comedy Central website. This comes after similar purges on the MTV and CMT websites, and in each instance viewers have been directed to watch content on Paramount+ instead.
Key Details: Comedy Central’s website housed clips and even some full episodes of “The Daily Show,” “The Colbert Report,” “South Park” and other shows. Visitors to each website are now prompted to sign up for Paramount+. Paramount is on the hunt for joint venture opportunities for its streamer, and appears unlikely to try to sell it.

In an enormous cultural loss reminiscent of the degaussed tapes incidents in the early days of television, Paramount Global has removed the online archives to ComedyCentral.com, TVLand.com, MTVNews.com, and CMT.com from public access.
The move takes away a quarter century or more of online content. It is unclear if the content has been saved for future use.
In a statement, a Paramount Global spokesperson said the takedowns came as part of a broader website strategy across Paramount. “We have introduced more streamlined versions of our sites, driving fans to Paramount+ to watch their favorite shows.”
The writers, editors and videographers on the sites were apparently given no warning of the changes, sparking outrage that their work has now vanished.
Michael Alex, part of the team that launched MTV News in 1996, posted to Facebook about the move. “It’s a huge loss and a waste of something...

Creators and fans have come to learn all too well what it feels like when an old show or film that used to be available through streaming is suddenly gone, even as we’ve been sold the idea of infinite choice and endless libraries at our fingertips.
Now though even older examples of TV history are disappearing in the blink of an eye. Paramount this week has quietly purged much of the content being hosted on several of its cable channels, including Comedy Central, Paramount Network, TV Land, and CMT, all as of Wednesday afternoon. And on Monday, MTVNews.com was completely removed from the web, with it erasing years of music news articles, columns, and features.
As a result, you can no longer find full episodes or clips of classic Comedy Central late night shows such as “The Colbert Report,” “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore,” or “The Opposition with Jordan Klepper...

The vast repository of content on Comedy Central’s website — dating back 25 years — has been removed by parent company Paramount Global, in a move to push fans to Paramount+.
The site, at comedycentral.com, has until now hosted clips from all episodes of “The Daily Show” since 1999, as well as segments from the full 11-season run of Stephen Colbert’s “The Colbert Report,” among other video content. Thousands of “Daily Show” clips remain free to watch on YouTube, but those go back only to 2015.
The move to scrub content from Comedy Central comes after Paramount similarly pulled the full archive of MTV News from the internet on Monday, as well as articles from CMT.
As of Wednesday, Comedy Central’s archived material has vanished from its website. A notice on the site says, “While episodes of most Comedy Central series are no longer available on this website, you can watch...

Returning from an almost two-year break in March, all three seasons of Girls5eva are currently on Netflix. And while the show didn’t manage to crack the streamer’s desirable (albeit kind of mysterious) Top 10, creator and showrunner Meredith Scardino says she’s thrilled with opening up her cult comedy to a massive global subscriber base — even if there’s still no official word on a potential fourth season.

Also on the list of James Martin, the Jesuit priest who was dubbed the chaplain of The Colbert Report. In total, more than 100 guests are on the list for the papal audience. There is something so delicious about biting into a comedy from the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock universe. “30 Rock,” of course, was the gold standard — and a show I find myself still quoting to this day. Team the Fey camp with Meredith Scardino, who cut her teeth on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” and you get “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” another landmark show that helped Netflix define its smart comedy brand early in that streamer’s life.
Scardino was also part of the Fey/Carlock collab that gave us NBC’s “Mr. Mayor,” and I am still a bit angry that not enough people tuned into that sharp series. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.
But that’s not what this column is about. Yes, the short life of “Mr. Mayor” still stings. Instead,...

Watch most comedians long enough and you’ll start to hear the same stories. But watch Stephen Colbert long enough and you’ll always find he has a new reason for audiences to fall in love with his wife, Evie.
On Sunday, April 21 at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, “The Late Show” host and Ben Schwartz closed out PaleyFest LA 2024 with a wide-ranging and goofy Q&a that included Colbert retelling some of his career-best stories while gently negging his interviewer’s questioning style.
“I will tell you a question I have been asked before,” Colbert quipped, turning Schwartz’ first prompt back on the actor in a good nature. “It’s ‘What’s a question you haven’t been asked before?'”
“And Ok, we’re going to the next question, you guys!,” Schwartz said with a laugh.

Stephen Colbert is known for hosting The Late Show with Stephen Colbert since 2015. Taking over from legendary talk show host David Letterman, Colbert has brought his particular brand of humor to the table and has been successful at it. Colbert has also been nominated for the Emmys multiple times as the host of The Late Show.
Before he took over hosting duties from Letterman, Stephen Colbert was an actor who had produced sketch comedy series and was also a cast member of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. He has also featured in many TV shows in a supporting and voice role in shows such as The Office and The Simpsons. He recently spoke about his dream role as an actor and if he would ever get back to it.

Stephen Colbert closed out Los Angeles’ annual PaleyFest TV festival Sunday afternoon, as he sat down for a conversation with comedian Ben Schwartz about his career and time at The Late Show desk.
During the wide-ranging chat inside the Dolby Theatre — which ranged from Colbert’s start in Chicago’s improv scene to his stint as a Sunday school teacher and his love of fantasy films — Schwartz asked the host if he would ever want to return to acting, for which he went to school.
“I was purely acting up until I had The Late Show,” Colbert recalled, as he had been in character on The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. “One of the weirdest things about taking the job is my manager, James ‘Babydoll’ Dixon, when he said, ‘Hey, it’s you.’ And I went, ‘Me?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, do you want to do it?’ And I’m like,...

It’s always refreshing to see the face of a late-night show turn the spotlight onto the staff and crew that help make it all happen, and Stephen Colbert did just that at a recent taping.
In a new behind the scenes clip from his pre-show audience Q&a, Colbert highlights a longtime crew member, stage manager Mark McKenna.
“We’ve known each other for 18 years,” Colbert says as he asks McKenna to join him on stage. “He’s such a gift to me. He’s showfolk, too. And so he understands the weird life that we live, and he can know what’s going on with me without me saying a word. He can read my mind.”
McKenna worked with Colbert on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report before following him to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when it launched on CBS in 2015. He also serves as stage...

Stephen Colbert fought back tears as he ended Monday’s episode of CBS’ The Late Show with a black title card paying tribute to his late, longtime executive assistant Amy Cole, who had died the day before in New York following a brief illness.
Cole had been battling cancer, according to colleagues who posted tributes on social media, and had been undergoing treatment at Manhattan’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.
At the end of Monday’s episode, Colbert turned very serious as he prepared to say his goodnight. “That’s it for The Late Show,” the host said before appearing to struggle to hold back tears. Colbert stared into the camera as if trying to find words, tapped his desk, and then offered an abrupt “good night.”
After Colbert exited the set, the memorial title card appeared reading, “Dedicated to our dear friend Amy Cole, 1970-2024.”

Stephen Colbert, widely known for his hosting of the satirical program The Colbert Report (2005 – 2014), might regret one of his recent jokes. A recent dig about Prince William and Kate Middleton has taken a severe turn.
Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Prince William, the elder son of King Charles III and Diana Spencer, is the British throne’s heir. He has been married to Catherine Middleton, the Princess of Wales, better known as Kate Middleton, since 2011. Middleton’s recent disappearance has caused some speculation about her marriage on the internet. To make matters worse, the words of Colbert have reignited some rumors about the Prince’s alleged infidelity.

As “The Office” showrunner Greg Daniels looks to create a new series in the world of Dunder Mifflin, he’s tapped “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman to help lead the project, sources tell Variety.
Daniels and Koman would serve as co-creators of the prospective series, which has not yet been greenlit to series and is still in development at Universal Television. It is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Daniels opened a development room in January 2024 to begin working on the new iteration of the hit NBC mockumentary sitcom, which ran from 2005 to 2013 and was adapted from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s British series of the same name. The American “Office” took place in Scranton, Penn., and followed the staff of a paper company. It starred Steve Carell,...

Exclusive: As Greg Daniels continues to work with a group of writers on what could become an expansion of The Office universe, Nathan For You co-creator Michael Koman has emerged as a leading creative voice. If Daniels’ new mockumentary exploratory project gets greenlighted to series, Koman will serve as the offshoot’s co-creator, Deadline has learned.
The potential Office follow-up, from Universal Television, remains in development.
As Deadline revealed exclusively in January, the prospective new series, which is not a reboot, would likely be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Daniels has indicated that a new Office iteration could follow a crew doing a documentary about a different subject.

Stephen Colbert is set to play a major role in what may end up being the most lucrative political fundraiser ever.
Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton will appear together at the event at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall later this month, with Colbert leading the three Democratic presidents in an on-stage conversation.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend, with tickets ranging from $250 to $500,000 a piece.
Although Colbert took part in a private Biden campaign reception with Kamala Harris in 2020, participating in a fundraiser of this scale is a first for a late-night host and would have been unthinkable back when Johnny Carson hosted the Tonight show.
All jokes aside (and he still makes plenty about the president’s age), Colbert has spoken publicly about the personal connection he feels with Biden, pointing to his 2015 interview with then-Vice President as a defining moment for his show.

On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert paid tribute to his late friend Toby Keith on The Late Show.
The host began the show by addressing the country music star’s death. “I was shocked and saddened when I saw the news this morning,” said Colbert. “I knew Toby was ill — he’d been fighting stomach cancer for some time — but I still had hope that we’d see each other again and that we would hear him on this stage.”
Colbert then spoke about his first time meeting Keith in 2006, when the country musician was a guest on The Colbert Report, and how the two sparked a surprising friendship. “I was lucky enough to become friends with Toby over the years, as improbable as that seems. We met very early on The Colbert Report and back then, there was a not-so-helpful legend that I had knives out for some of my guests.

Jon Stewart will make a surprising return to The Daily Show, 25 years after starting on the show. He will host the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week through the 2024 election cycle.
The news comes eight years after he stepped down from hosting the show, which revolutionized late-night television and brought through the likes of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee and Steve Carell.

CBS gave its new late night series “After Midnight” a bit of a soft launch on Tuesday night, premiering the show with minimal fanfare in its 12:37 a.m. timeslot behind “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Comedian Taylor Tomlinson hosts the series, which tapes on the Paramount lot in Hollywood.
The decision to keep the “After Midnight” premiere lowkey is by design: Allow the new show to find its voice over the next few weeks, prior to the Super Bowl and return of first-run scripted series in February, when more eyeballs will be back at the broadcast networks.
“I’m Taylor Tomlinson and this is ‘After Midnight, where three comedians enter, one wins and two will regret participating,” she said in opening the first episode. “We’re taking the internet and desperately trying to make it fun. It’s gonna be fun, right? Comedians, you’ll be competing for...

January 11, 1999, 25 years ago to the day, was Jon Stewart’s first night hosting The Daily Show.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart went on to win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series for ten consecutive years between 2003 and 2012, before losing to The Colbert Report, a show that he exec produced, for a couple of years, and then coming back to win in 2015 in his final season.
It’s a run that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver looked like it might replicate with seven wins in the category – then known as Outstanding Variety Talk Series – starting in 2016.
However, Oliver is now competing on Monday night at the primetime Emmys in a new category, Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, up against Saturday Night Live and A Black Lady Sketch Show,...

"There was a time we were all lost... looking for somewhere to go." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for an animated series premiering in just a few weeks titled Carol & The End of The World, created and produced by Dan Guterman. Another apocalyptic story about what to do when the world is ending. Global human annihilation is impending due to a mystery planet speeding towards Earth. Among the hedonistic crowd, one quiet & perpetually uneasy woman stands out, while the majority feel free to follow their greatest hedonistic desires. Guterman explains that the show is "a love letter to routine. A show about the comforts of monotony. An animated & existential comedy about the daily rituals that make up the gaps that make up a life." Featuring the voices of Martha Kelly as Carol, Beth Grant, Lawrence Pressman, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Mel Rodriguez, Bridget Everett, and Delbert Hunt. Plus a whole bunch of guests.

More than eight years after David Letterman signed off as host of The Late Show, he will return – not as host (this ain’t The Tonight Show!) but as guest. Next Monday, Letterman will take the chair next to current host Stephen Colbert, who took over for the snarky, TV-smashing, near-Ted Striker Letterman in 2015.
During Thursday’s episode of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert announced that David Letterman would make his triumphant return to The Ed Sullivan Theater, which the latter made his home for 23 seasons and more than 4,200 episodes. “I am so happy to say, I will be joined…by a man who is no stranger to The Ed Sullivan Theater, though I know for a fact he’s not been here for eight-and-a-half years. Willie Nelson stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night to perform “I Never Cared for You.” The track appears on Nelson’s upcoming greatest hits collection, which is set to drop this Friday — just ahead of his long overdue induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Red Headed Stranger took the stage with a full band (including his son and frequent collaborator Micah Nelson) and gave a spirited rendition of the 1964 song. His delivery added an extra bite to lyrics like, “Your heart has been forewarned all men will lie to you.” Replay the full performance below.
Nelson has a long history with Colbert dating back to the latter’s years on The Colbert Report. Back in 2008, Nelson and Colbert channeled David Bowie and Bing Crosby on an original song called “Little Dealer Boy” for A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!

CBS is putting the pieces in place for its next late night show.
The network has named a host and hired the key creative team for After Midnight, which is set to take over the 12:35 a.m. Et spot in early 2024. The show is inspired by Comedy Central’s comedic game show @midnight and getting a truth-in-titling name change.
Comedian Taylor Tomlinson will host After Midnight. Tomlinson, who has two Netflix specials to her name, appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday following the afternoon announcement of the creative team.
Jack Martin, a veteran of @midnight and currently showrunner of CBS’ game show Raid the Cage, and Eric Pierce (The Challenge: USA, Hollywood Game Night) will be showrunners on the new series, which comes from CBS Studios, Stephen Colbert’s Spartina Industries and Funny or Die. CBS has tapped stand-up comedian Taylor Tomlinson to host its new late night franchise “After Midnight.” The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert, who announced Tomlinson during Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Tomlinson then discussed the news with Colbert on stage.
Tomlinson’s recent TV credits include her Netflix comedy specials “Look At You” and “Quarter Life Crisis.”
As announced earlier today, “After Midnight” will launch in early 2024 in the slot previously held by “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” It’s based on “@midnight,” which followed “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” from October 2013 to August 2017, was a panel series with mostly guest comedians, who would interact with host Chris Hardwick.
Earlier this year Tomlinson sealed a deal with Netflix for her next two standup specials to premiere on the streamer. Tomlinson taped her latest special in Washington, D.C., for a 2024 premiere date.

Colbert joked to the audience that, while it’s part of his job to stay up to date on current events, he gets “most of my news” from CBS News press releases. CBS is getting ready to let it all hang out after 12 a.m.
The Paramount Global network said it will launch its newest late-night entry, now titled “After Midnight,” in early 2024. And while a host has yet to be named for the program, an array of producers and top writers are already in place.
“After Midnight” will serve as an updated version of “@midnight,” an ersatz game show that focused on the latest trending topics served up on digital and social media. The program, which followed “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” from October 2013 to August 2017, relied heavily on a coterie of guest comedians, who would interact with host Chris Hardwick. CBS executives are said to have narrowed their list of potential talent down to a few and are doing due diligence on each.

CBS is making its latest moves in late-night.
The network has set the showrunners, head writer and exec producing team for After Midnight, its reboot of Comedy Central series @midnight, that will replace The Late Late Show with James Corden.
It comes as the series, which is set to air in the 12:30am slot in early 2024, is narrowing down the field for a host. We hear that Taylor Tomlinson, X Mayo and Ricky Velez are the three in contention and the trio did a test shoot last Wednesday. A decision is expected soon. CBS declined to comment on the host situation.
Jack Martin, who was the showrunner of all four seasons of Comedy Central’s @midnight, which originally ran between 2013 and 2017, will serve as co-showrunner alongside Eric Pierce, who has exec produced series including CBS’ The Challenge: USA and The Wheel.

Netflix has set the voice cast for “Carol & the End of the World,” an adult animated series created by Dan Guterman that will debut on Dec. 15.
Martha Kelly will play the title role. The series takes place as extinction is imminent thanks to a mysterious planet hurtling towards Earth. While most people feel liberated to pursue their wildest dreams, Carol, quiet and always uncomfortable, woman stands alone — lost among the hedonistic masses.
Kelly is best known for starring in the FX comedy “Baskets” as Chip Baskets’ (Zach Galifianakis) friend Martha Brooks. In 2022, she guest starred in HBO’s “Euphoria” as drug dealer Laurie, which earned her an Emmy nomination. Kelly’s other prominent credits include “Gaslit” on Starz, “Hacks” on Max and “The Great North” on Fox.
The ensemble of “Carol & the End of the World” also features Michael Chernus, Bridget Everett, Beth Grant, Lawrence Pressman, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Mel Rodriguez and Delbert Hunt.

Ziwe Fumudoh is not performing at Bklyn Clay, but glimpses of the eponymous character she took from buzzy Instagram Lives to a late-night premium cable show emerge as soon as she arrives. She’s direct, clear that she wants to immediately start our lesson at this hip New York ceramic studio.
“Let’s get this party started,” she quietly urges twice.
Making pottery was Ziwe’s idea — she tells me she’s done it several times before — but I’ve never tried. We’re stationed across from one another, a table of supplies between us.

David Letterman says he never told Les Moonves to look for someone to replace him on “The Late Show,” contrary to a conversation Stephen Colbert had with the former CBS head. The two late night legends cleared the air about the murky bit of TV history on the latest episode of the “Strike Force Five” podcast.
According to Colbert, who took over “The Late Show” in 2015, his manager told him in November 2013 that Moonves wanted to meet with him in his Park Avenue apartment.
“He starts talking about how he likes [‘The Colbert Report’], and they’re thinking about 11:30 and what they’re going to do after you,” Colbert told Letterman. “I said, ‘I need to just stop right here and say that’s lovely you would want to talk to me. Late-night will coming back.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers will now be making plans to return to air after the WGA and the AMPTP struck a tentative agreement Sunday.
They will likely mark the first tranche of shows able to return, along with daytime talk shows.
The late-night shows have been dark since the beginning of May when the writers walked out, becoming one of the first subsects of the TV industry to close down as a result of the labor action.
Sources told Deadline that the shows will likely return a few days after the strike is officially over, once it’s been ratified, time to give the writers the chance to return and the crew to get the production process going again.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” may be synonymous with The Roots at this point, but Fallon wasn’t the first late night host to use the beloved band. That honor belongs to Stephen Colbert.
“Strangely, I actually have pieces of [‘Captain’ Kirk Douglas’] guitar, and this is true,” Colbert said during the most recent episode of the podcast “Strike Force Five.”
In 2008, “The Colbert Report” did a show in Philadelphia where Douglas and Questlove performed as the show’s band.
“So you were the first host to have The Roots as the band?” Fallon asked.
“I don’t like to brag, but I do brag all the time when you’re not around like, ‘I kinda broke that idea,'” Colbert said. “They played for one night, and they started the show with the national anthem. At the end of it, Kirk smashed his guitar, and I swept up the pieces and...

Bill Maher has faced a lot of criticism after revealing that he was bringing Real Time back to HBO next week.
Called out by a slew of striking writers on social media, the WGA called the move “disappointing” and said that they would picket the show on its return.
But the other question that Maher’s move provoked was whether the remaining late-night hosts – The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Late Night’s Seth Meyers and Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver – would make a similar move.
As it stands, the answer seems to be a hearty ‘No’.
The group has got together regularly after teaming up to launch the Strike Force Five podcast on Spotify, established to help pay for their staffs during the strike. The fivesome has not explicitly talked about returning or not returning to work on the podcast,...

Following its surprise 2022 Emmy win for Best Variety Series Directing, “A Black Lady Sketch Show” is out of the running for the same prize this year, leaving an opportunity for “Saturday Night Live” to bounce back and achieve its 12th victory in the category. “Saturday Night Live” is the only former winner in this directing lineup, while “The Problem with Jon Stewart” stands as the only new nominee. The three other returning contenders are “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which have now amassed a collective total of 18 mentions in this category.

History was made 10 years ago at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards held Sept. 22, 2013. It was the first time in history that a streaming service took home a trophy.
