Everybody loves Back to the Future, the classic story of a suburban teen who drives a cocaine trafficker’s luxury car into the 1950s and inadvertently seduces his own mother. Fun for the whole family!
Yeah, there’s a lot of creepy stuff going on in these movies that spawned a literal children’s Saturday morning cartoon— from Doc Brown’s multiple crimes to the fact that Marty and Doc’s adventures through time somehow doomed Princess Diana.
Obviously, the whole thing is based on a wildly uncomfortable premise, featuring a climax that requires our hero to make out with his own mother in order to preserve the integrity of the space-time continuum, while also ensuring that he’ll spend the rest of his life in intense psychotherapy.
The original movie is so gross, a lot of people seemingly haven’t noticed that the third movie is also incredibly incestuous.

Benji Gregory, who played son Brian Tanner on sitcom Alf, has passed away. While no official cause of death has been released, a family member told TMZ that the actor was found in his car on June 13th.
The same family member posted on Facebook this week, just shy of one month since Benji Gregory was found. The heartbreaking post reads: “It is with a heavy heart my family has suffered a loss way too early. Ben was a great Son, Brother and Uncle. He was fun to be around and made us laugh quite often. Still, going through his things, I find myself laughing at little videos or notes of his, in between crying. My brother Ben was found in his car, along with his beloved service dog Hans, deceased on June 13. We believe he went there the evening of the 12th to deposit some residuals. (Found in his...

Former child star Benji Gregory, who was known for his adorable turn as Brian Tanner on TV’s sitcom Alf, has died at the age of 46. TMZ reports that his sister confirmed his death. Was reportedly found in his car near a bank in Peoria, Arizona, nearly a month ago on June 13. His cause of death has not been announced, but his sister reportedly told the site that he experienced mental health illnesses, including depression, bipolar disorder, and sleep disorder. Others close to the late actor reportedly theorized that he fell asleep in his car and died due to the heat. His service dog Hans was also in the vehicle and reportedly perished alongside him. In addition to portraying Brian Tanner for over 100 episodes of the TV series, the actor was also known for his voice roles in ’80s animated series such as Fantastic Max and Back to the Future.

Netflix has just added a legendary film series to its catalog, and it’s none other than the groundbreaking Back to the Future trilogy. First released in 1985, these films have become timeless classics that blend science fiction with comedy, adventure, and heartfelt drama. The creative journey of this iconic trilogy started long before its 1985 debut. Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, the two masterminds behind the series, met in a Cinema 290 class at USC in 1971. Their collaboration laid the foundation for what would become one of the most beloved trilogies in film history. The Creation of an Iconic...

Science fiction often transcends the limitations of a single genre by encompassing a multitude of other genres within its narrative. One series of films that exemplifies this versatility is none other than Back to the Future. Released between 1985 and 1990, this iconic sci-fi trilogy daringly combines elements of romantic comedy, buddy comedy, mystery, thriller, historical drama, family drama, social commentary, and even western all within three unforgettable movies. Now, Netflix has added this genre-defying trilogy to its streaming service, giving fans old and new a chance to experience the magic of ‘Back to the Future‘. But how did this...

Brad Pitt will be next seen in Joseph Kosinski’s sports drama F1, which is currently being filmed at the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone race track. The Formula-One race drama also stars Damson Idris and Javier Bardem in lead roles and is co-produced by Lewis Hamilton.
While the film is being shot at real F1 locations around the world, the decision would have caused a huge loss to the film’s production during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer reportedly had a workaround to avoid re-shoots.

It’s “Back to the Future” week at Netflix, literally.
Not only is Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 classic time travel comedy the #6 film at the streamer, but one of the decade’s most iconic characters is back with the just-released “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” #1 there.
Picking up theatrical franchises isn’t unprecedented for the streamer. Netflix produced the second “Knives Out” film and is currently in production on the third. Previously, the company took shots at the “Cloverfield” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” series — to little impact. Netflix has continued some Tyler Perry series. But “Beverly Hills Cop” is a whole other level in terms of previous iconic success.
The 1984 original was one of the biggest comedy hits ever released, with an adjusted domestic gross of over $600 million. A fourth film has been in the works for years, with Murphy, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Netflix joining forces to license “Beverly Hills Cop...

Will Beall was tapped to write a Justice League movie in 2011. Warner Bros. wanted to follow in the footsteps of Marvel Studios (The Avengers was released the following years) and even eyed Ben Affleck to direct long before he was cast as the Dceu's Batman.
Plans ultimately changed, with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice laying the foundation for Zack Snyder's version of Justice League. Joss Whedon was enlisted for reshoots which completely changed the movie, only for Zack Snyder's Justice League to be released on streaming in 2021.
Will Beall received a writing credit on the latter version and has now opened up on why that might have been and how his script differed.
"I wouldn’t call my experience dysfunctional," he told The Wrap. "I can only speak about my experience. I didn’t have a dysfunctional experience on 'Aquaman.' I had...

Screenwriter Will Beall has talked about his unused script for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and says it ‘owed a lot’ to Back To The Future II.
An entire book could be written about Zack Snyder’s Justice League, its difficult production, and its later re-edit. One of the first people to work on the 2017 superhero team-up film, though, was screenwriter Will Beall.
While 2013’s Man Of Steel was still in post-production, Beall was hired to write a script for Justice League – one that would ultimately go unused. David S Goyer was brought in as his replacement, and then Chris Terrio was later brought in to rewrite Goyer’s draft. Such is Hollywood.
Over a decade later, Beall has talked briefly about his involvement with the DC universe and his writing on Justice League in particular. He revealed that some of the ideas in his draft ended up in the finished movie,...

George Lucas changed the world when he created the space opera Star Wars. The filmmaker told a story of a rebellion against a galactic empire that was set in a galaxy far away and it was the highest-grossing film of all time back when it was released in 1977.
Lucas’ sci-fi franchise has been extremely influential since then and has inspired generations of filmmakers. While his directorial debut Thx 1138 was a box-office bomb, the film was reportedly screened for students at his alma mater USC School of Cinematic Arts, which was attended by a young Robert Zemeckis, who would go on to make Back to the Future.

In cinematic history, few films have managed to capture the hearts of audiences quite like Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s Back to the Future. The film is the perfect comedy of science-fiction, comedy, and drama and it is impossible for movie lovers to think of a world without Back to the Future. However, there was a time when no one wanted to bet on the film.

Steven Spielberg’s movies have been regarded as the epitome of filmmaking. Having multiple Oscar nominations and wins under his belt, his films are some of the most critically acclaimed projects in all of Hollywood. He has been in the business for five decades and his films have become ingrained in the very fabric of cinema. Setting many standards and norms, his impact cannot be measured.
Knowing just how iconic and significant he has been, it is not surprising that he has also been an inspiration to many. His films have made many want to follow a similar path and it would seem that Robert Zemeckis was one such person.

Recasting happens all the time. Tragedy sometimes strikes, like in the case of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the "Harry Potter" series, where Michael Gambon assumed the role following the passing of the original performer, Richard Harris. Oftentimes, recasting is a result of scheduling conflicts, like when "May December" breakout star Charles Melton took over the role of Reggie Mantle on "Riverdale" due to original actor Ross Butler's scheduling conflicts with "13 Reasons Why." And sometimes a character is recast simply because they weren't right for the role, as was famously the case with Eric Stoltz, who was replaced by Michael J. Fox after six weeks of shooting "Back to the Future."
In all of these instances, fans were well aware of the recastings as they happened, but once a person has been playing a role long enough, audiences sometimes forget they were ever recast in the first place. This...

I guess you guys aren’t ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it. Ok, so Coldplay is no Chuck Berry, but Michael J. Fox recently jammed with the British band on stage at the Glastonbury Festival, sitting in for two songs.
Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay for “Humankind” (off of their 2021 album Music of the Spheres) and a rather beautiful version of “Fix You”, one of their signature songs off of 2005’s X&y. Fox, bound to a wheelchair due to his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease, proved a vital presence on the stage, especially for “Fix You.” Just before Fox left the stage, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin gave him – and a certain iconic ‘80s movie – a special shoutout, saying, “The main reason why we’re in a band is because of watching Back to the Future. Axel Foley returning to Beverly Hills, an animated feature from former Studio Ghibli talent, a jaw-dropping doc about love-struck “rooftoppers” and final seasons from three big shows — a Spanish teen drama, a viking saga and Daniel Larusso’s last hurrah — are some of the highlights on Netflix in July.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Netflix’s high profile feature release for this month, arrives on July 3. The fourth installment in the Eddie Murphy-led action-comedy franchise, sees Detroit detective Axel Foley return to Beverly Hills, thirty years after his last visit. This time, Foley must team up with a new partner — played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt — when his daughter’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened. Franchise fans will be happy to see regulars Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), John Taggart (John Ashton), Jeffrey Friedman (Paul Reiser) and Serge (Bronson Pinchot) make appearances and series newcomer Kevin Bacon is also part of the action as Captain Grant.

It was a Glastonbury of old and new — trusted performances from festival legends Coldplay and music veteran Shania Twain, as well as Worthy Farm debuts from Dua Lipa and Sza.
But the U.K.’s most popular music fest draws to a close Monday and 210,000 people will now make their way home after five days of surprise guest stars, wacky sets and a European Championship soccer match that no one could bear to miss.
Houdini singer Dua Lipa kicked off the headline performances on the main Pyramid stage Friday night as she thanked fans for “making my dreams come true.” It was a sturdy and seamless gig from the British pop star who got to enjoy the rest of the festival with the nerves over and done with. She pleased fans by bringing out Tame Impala star Kevin Parker for the duo’s rendition of “The Less I Know the Better.

Michael J. Fox had a “f*cking mind blowing” time performing with Coldplay at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival on Saturday.
The actor and Parkinson’s activist played guitar on the band’s hit “Fix You” during the group’s headlining set at the U.K. music festival last night.
On Instagram on Sunday, Fox thanked Coldplay’s team and bandmembers Chris Martin, Will Champion, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman, as well as manager Phil Harvey.
“There is a time for every band and a band for every time,” Fox wrote alongside a carousel of photos, including one with members of his team and him sitting in a wheelchair in front of an “optimism is a political act” sign. “This is @coldplay’s time.”
Fox also shared a photo of a sign reading “Coldplay special guest” and a short video of the band backstage.

Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay Saturday night for a surprise performance at the Glastonbury music festival.
The “Back to the Future” star had previously appeared with the band in 2016. This time, he arrived in a wheelchair to join in for two of their songs during the encore.
Frontman Chris Martin provided a freestyle riff in the middle of their 2021 hit “Humankind.”
“Here is another legendary Michael, ” Martin said about Fox after also introducing festival founder Sir Michael Eavis. “One who just totally rocks. With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox.”
Fox, 63, has been battling Parkinson’s Disease since 1991. He held a guitar in his lap during the band’s headlining set.

Coldplay’s status as the Glastonbury house band has almost become the butt of a joke since they first headlined at Worthy Farm back in 2002. This year, they become the first act ever to top the bill here five times, and bring a Saturday night show that is mesmerising at its best but often simultaneously head scratching.
Playing to what will undoubtedly be by far the biggest crowd of the weekend, the band launch straight into a phenomenal first 45 minutes that reminds everyone why they’re the only band to headline here this many times.

In the ever-changing landscape of pop culture, where trends flicker faster than a lightbulb, one franchise managed to stand as a beacon across the generations; and it’s none other than Back to the Future. But while the films’ success was largely credited to the titular star Michael J. Fox, his paycheck spoke otherwise.

Back to the Future is a true sci-fi masterpiece developed under the cinematic canvas of Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Bob Gale. However, even a movie of such caliber and star cast had a slew of rejections before it was released, including multimedia titans like Disney, which gave the film a hard pass.

Coldplay’s headlining performance at Glastonbury on Saturday night featured a number of special guests, but one individual’s presence was particularly significant: Michael J. Fox.
The film and television icon, who has battled Parkinson’s disease since 1991, joined the band midway through their performance of “Humankind.” After serenading Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, frontman Chris Martin turned his attention to “another legendary Michael.” Martin continued his singsong introduction by describing the Back to the Future star as the “one who just totally rocks, with his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff… Ladies and gentleman, please welcome Michael J.Fox!”
Fox took the stage in a wheelchair and played guitar along with the rest of Coldplay. He then stuck around for “Fix You.”
“The main reason we’re in a band is because of Back to the Future,” Martin said following the performance. “So thank you to Michael, our hero.

Most movies and shows about the history of humankind are not accurate. Facts and events are distorted and rearranged to elicit certain emotional responses that align with the biases of the director or showrunner in question. And history buffs just love to nitpick them to hell, especially if said biases are a tad bit toxic in nature. But I think the subgenre that really drives them nuts is the alternate fantasy-history subgenre. For example, there’s Watchmen, which reimagined everything from the Cold War to the Vietnam War. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter turned the famous President into a killer of bloodsuckers. The X-Men films, MonsterVerse films, MCU films, Back to the Future films, and the Bill & Ted films have toyed with many historical figures. Shows like Fallout and Renegade Nell have done the same on the small screen. And, now, My Lady Jane has joined this illustrious list by...

Tonight on “MasterChef,” the four generations go head-to-head as the top 20 enter the MasterChef kitchen. The contestants are faced with their first mystery box challenge where they are presented with a childhood photo of themselves and tasked with creating a restaurant-worthy dish that highlights their favorite nostalgic comfort foods from their youth. The most impressive dish grants an entire generation immunity from elimination while a chef from the remaining three teams risks going home in the all-new “Back to the Future – Mystery Box” episode of “MasterChef: Generations” airing Wednesday, June 26 (8:00-9:02 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.
Season 14 of “MasterChef” brings together amateur cooks from four generations – Millennials, Baby Boomers, Gen Z and Gen X – to prove that age does not matter in the kitchen. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez, Joe Bastianich eliminated contestants each week until one winner is crowned with the title of MasterChef and the $250,000 grand prize.

Robert Zemeckis has always been known for tinkering with new technology throughout his filmography. From using performance capture for The Polar Express to combining live-action and animation in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the director hasn’t shied away from pushing the boundaries of moviemaking.
However, his over-reliance on CGI since the days of the Back to the Future trilogy has also been the biggest criticism against the director. And his upcoming feature with Tom Hanks has only elevated these doubts among fans.

July 2024 is going to be a bustling month on Netflix, with over 50 movies scheduled to hit the streamer's library in the United States. As ever when it comes to Netflix, the incoming titles will generally skew mainstream and recent, but they still cover a wide array of genres and countries -- and sci-fi fans will find plenty of good stuff to dig into in that new batch.
The selection of science fiction titles coming to Netflix this July (not counting new originals) will include seven total movies, with six of those movies hailing from two enormously popular trilogies that are set to be made available in full on the service. The seventh one, meanwhile, is a sequel to a popular animated film that Netflix currently doesn't have. But as frustrating as that impracticality is always wont to be, the sequel in question is fun and self-contained enough to be enjoyed on its own.

I'm of two minds about "Welcome to Marwen." Robert Zemeckis' 2018 live-action/motion-capture creation is everything that Jeff Malmberg's 2010 documentary "Marwencol," the film that inspired it, isn't. Yet, as "shockingly bad" as "Welcome to Marwen" is, to quote Chris Evangelista's review for /Film, its failure seemed to turn Zemeckis away from taking big swings. Instead, he subsequently retreated into boring familiarity with his live-action remakes of "The Witches" and "Pinocchio," both of which earned lackluster reviews and vanished into the direct-to-streaming void, never to be spoken of again. I've since found myself wishing he would take on something challenging and experimental once more.
Well, in classic cautionary tale fashion, it appears my wish has led to a finger curling on the monkey's paw. Zemeckis is coming back this year with "Here," a film based on Richard McGuire's graphic novel about the events that take place in the same...

Ti West’s decades-spanning horror trilogy, which began in the late ’70s with X (2022) and then jumped back over half a century for the same year’s WW1 prequel Pearl, now fast-forwards to the mid-’80s with a capper that requires a little more thought than its gory, crowd-pleasing predecessors. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the Reagan years would be West’s safe space, given 2009’s pitch-perfect period piece The House of The Devil, but MaXXXine pulls back on that kind of detail in a way that’s surprising. Despite the obvious genre set-up, which promises way more violence than you’d expect, but is pretty gory when you do get it — West’s film is actually an abstract think-piece about women in cinema, predicated on Bette Davis’s quote: “In this business, until you’re known as a monster, you’re not a star.

"In most films, the title screen is the first character you see. Those letters are literally the first characters you see." Almost everyone can identify a movie by its font. From Back to the Future to The Terminator to Gone with the Wind to The Godfather, these fonts and logos are an important part of the movie's identity. This entrancing video essay titled Why Movie Fonts Matter is a fascinating dive into the world of fonts, design, and branding. Does the font really matter? Yes it does. Absolutely. It may seem irrelevant, but it's an important choice that filmmakers make. This video essay is edited by Leigh Singer, featuring designer Marie Boulanger narrating her thoughts about movie fonts – created for the Little White Lies movie magazine. We all know the hilarious SNL sketch with Ryan Gosling choosing the Papyrus font for Avatar (watch here + the sequel), but this goes beyond...

"Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air" This is just one of the many questions that police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) has for Metropolitan Police Sergeant Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) when the city cop is reassigned to the rural town of Sandford, Gloucestershire in Edgar Wright's splendid action comedy "Hot Fuzz" (which just might be the best movie in the Cornetto Trilogy).
The bumbling but charming Butterman has never seen any real police action in this little village, so when Angel shows up, he's loaded with questions. Soon enough, they're both loaded and armed to the teeth when they learn there's a sinister plot at the center of Sandford that has kept it clean and peaceful for years. When they discover that the village elders, including Danny's father, Inspector Frank Butterman (Jim Broadbent), have been killing off residents who threaten to uproot the town's quaint foundation,...

Co-production
“Devi Chowdhurani,” helmed by Subhrajit Mitra, has become the first Bengali-language film to secure official Indo-u.K. co-production status. The period drama, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srabanti Chatterjee alongside Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakraborty, Darshana Banik, Bibriti Chatterjee and Kinjal Nanda, is produced by Adited Motion Pictures (U.S./India) and Lok Arts Collective (India/U.K.), with the U.K.’s Hc Films and Moringa Studios serving as co-producers.
The project, now in early post-production, adapts Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay‘s 1884 novel about one of India’s first female freedom fighters. Composer Pandit Bickram Ghosh is on board for the score.
India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Nfdc, Ffo and Invest India, along with the U.K.’s BFI and Dcms, greenlit the co-production status.
Adited Motion Pictures’ Aparna and Aniruddha Dasgupta called the recognition “a dream come true,” while Lok Arts Collective’s Soumyajit Majumdar emphasized the importance of international co-productions for global exposure.

Back in the late 90s, a handful of powerful Hollywood producers set out on what was then a very exciting venture for genre fans: Dark Castle Entertainment, a production company dedicated to making medium-budget horror movies with A-list casts. Inspired by the legacy of beloved 50s schlockmeister William Castle, Dark Castle was going to remake some of the producer-director’s most famous works, like House on Haunted Hill and 13 Ghosts, in addition to focusing on original material. These movies weren’t going to be cheapies like Castle’s were – they’d have substantial budgets for the genre, top-tier creative teams behind the camera, and recognizable faces from film and television in front.. It was an inspired idea, and though now we look back on the venture with bittersweet memories, Dark Castle definitely left its mark on the horror genre. Calling Warner Bros. its home, Dark Castle had put out...
