At this year’s Tony Awards “Suffs” managed to win prizes for Best Musical Book and Best Score, both of which went to Shaina Taub. Historically, winning those two accolades in particular would bode well for a show’s chances at Best Musical. Yet in a shocking turn of events, the top award went to “The Outsiders.” But this is not the first time something like this has happened.
SEETony Awards: Every winner (and nominee) in all 26 competitive categories
In 1978 “On the Twentieth Century” won Tonys for Best Score and Best Book (Comden and Green). It also won Best Actor in a Musical (John Cullum), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Kevin Kline), and Best Scenic Design (Robin Wagner). Yet Best Musical that year went to Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr.‘s revue “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” A tribute to the music of Fats Waller, it also won Tonys for Best...

Spencer Tracy was the two-time Oscar winner starred in a variety of classics before his death in 1967, including nine films opposite fellow legend Katharine Hepburn. Let’s take a look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Tracy pulled off the rare hat-trick of winning back-to-back Best Actor Oscars, first for his performance as a Portuguese sailor in “Captains Courageous” (1937), then for playing a dedicated priest helping wayward youths in “Boys Town” (1938). It’s a feat that would only be repeated once more in this category by Tom Hanks (“Philadelphia” in 1993 and “Forrest Gump” in 1994).
Tracy would compete seven more times in the category: “San Francisco” (1936), “Father of the Bride” (1950), “Bad Day at Black Rock” (1955), “The Old Man and the Sea” (1958), “Inherit the Wind” (1960), “Judgment at Nuremberg” (1961), and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” (1967), which was recognized posthumously.

How many other channels’ fans know where they were the day a network launched?” says TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz. “I’m not sure either of those things are true without Robert Osborne. Anheuser-Busch InBev, the Belgian multinational drink and brewing company, suffered a potential loss of $1.4 billion in revenue due to the social media-driven boycott against Bud Light in 2023.
Even though Anheuser-Busch InBev had reported record revenues for 2023, they claimed that its growth potential was hindered by its U.S. business.
Sales in that area were negatively affected by a boycott of Bud Light following a sponsored Instagram post with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer.
A large share of Bud Light’s consumer base stopped buying their beer in early April 2023, when Mulvaney shared the sponsored post of a custom Bud Light can Anheuser-Busch sent her to celebrate “365 Days of Girlhood,” which she opened in honor of March Madness.
Speaking about the hateful comments she received, Mulvaney said, “I was nervous that you were going to start believing those things that they were saying about me since it is so loud. But...

One of the most quoted pieces of Hollywood wisdom holds that 90 percent of directing is casting. You bring the right actors together, and you're off to the races. This is, of course, laughably simplistic. You could argue that 90 percent of directing is writing because there's no movie or show to make if there's nothing on the page. And many directors will tell you that their films don't truly come together until they're hunkered down with their editor in post-production.
The truth, obviously, is that film and television production is a collaborative process that requires numerous people with expertise in different disciplines to do what they do at the highest level possible. And when it comes to casting, there is absolutely an art to finding, after untold hours of reels and cold reads, the ideal actor for each role — especially if you're trying to launch a successful television series. Because no...

Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney won the Woman of the Year award from British magazine Attitude.
“Dylan Mulvaney is our Woman of the Year, supported by @VirginAtlantc,” the magazine wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Mulvaney responded to the post, saying, “Knowing that my community sees me this way and acknowledges my womanhood is all I need to keep going.”
Mulvaney posted her acceptance speech on social media.
“Some people don’t see me as a woman at all, which is why receiving this honor from a queer publication like Attitude means so much more to me,” Mulvaney said. “No matter how hard I try or what I wear, or what I say, or what surgeries I get, I will never reach an acceptable version of womanhood by those hateful people’s standards. But as long as I have the queer community that sees me for my truth, I’m gonna be ok.

Singer Olivia Rodrigo got some adorable dating advice from a little boy. The 20-year-old singer recently appeared on the Recess Therapy show and she straight-up asked a little boy named Miles for dating advice, reports etonline.com.
“How do you think that I find love in my life,” she asked, prompting Miles to respond with, “Pick a person that looks kind.”
The most adorable part came right after, when Miles put his tiny hand on Rodrigo’s knee before telling her, “I really hope you find love.”
Rodrigo was visibly moved by the kind gesture, but Miles wasn’t done yet.
He had her and host Julian Shapiro-Barnum cracking up when Miles also shared, “The only person you can’t marry is your cousins.”
The sweet advice comes not long after Rodrigo dropped ‘Vampire’, which made waves after fans speculated the track is about her ex, Zack Bia.

The last time Haley Bennett starred in a gloriously romantic period piece, it was Joe Wright’s daring musical re-imagining of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” 2021’s “Cyrano.” She’s back in lavish gowns and rapturously beautiful settings in “Widow Clicquot,” Thomas Napper’s ode to (in no particular order) champagne, doomed romance and girl power. If it’s neither as bold nor as swooning as “Cyrano,” it does provide additional evidence that Bennett slips easily into the 19th century as both an object of beauty and a force of nature.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it is one of a number of wildly varied films in which women claim power that had been denied to them in patriarchal societies. Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall made her feature debut with Howard Hawks‘ adventure yarn “To Have and Have Not” (1945). The film was a landmark for the actress in both her career and her life, since it was how she met her future husband Humphrey Bogart. The two would become a legendary couple off-screen and on, making three subsequent features together: “The Big Sleep” (1946), “Dark Passage” (1947) and “Key Largo” (1948).
Despite her hefty filmography, Bacall received just one Oscar nomination in her career: Best Supporting Actress for “The Mirror Has Two Faces” (1996), in which she played Barbra Streisand‘s domineering mother. After victories at the Golden Globes and SAG, Bacall looked like a shoo-in to finally clinch an Academy Award, yet lost to Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient”).
Bacall also had a successful stage career, winning two Tonys as Best Actress in a Musical (“Applause” in 1970 and “Woman of the Year” in 1981″). Her...

Some might say that 2022 was not Shakira's year. It was a difficult time for the Colombian songstress after she discovered that her romantic partner of 11 years and father of her two children, Barcelona soccer athlete Gerard Piqué, had been cheating on her with another woman. To make matters more challenging, add in some tax-fraud troubles that she also experienced, and you have what some may call a year from hell.
But since Shakira's breakup from Piqúe, she has come back stronger and more resilient than ever. The artist has put out back-to-back singles that have broken numerous records, including "Monotonía," which had the biggest debut ever for a woman on Spotify in Mexico and Colombia. Her famous diss track "Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol.53" from January debuted at No.9 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, making her the first woman to reach the top 10 on the chart with a song in Spanish.

Despite the significant challenges they've faced in a male-dominated industry, Latina music artists are thriving. Karol G recently made history with her fourth album, "Mañana Será Bonito," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts No.1. And Shakira has had an epic year of back-to-back recording-breaking hits, including her viral diss track "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions #53."

The films in contention for the 2023 Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar are “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Glass Onion,” “Living,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Women Talking.” Our odds currently indicate that “Women Talking” (10/3) will win the award, followed in order of likelihood by “All Quiet on the Western Front” (37/10), “Glass Onion” (9/2), “Top Gun: Maverick” (9/2), and “Living” (9/2).
“Glass Onion” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” which are, respectively, the first sequels to 2019’s “Knives Out” and 1986’s “Top Gun,” are the first pair of continuation films ever nominated against each other in this category. Included among the seven sequels that have contended here before are winners “The Godfather Part II” (1975) and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004) and nominees “Before Sunset” (2005), “Toy Story 3” (2011), “Before Midnight” (2014), “Logan” (2018), and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” (2021).
Of the 11 individual writers in this year’s lineup, only Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”) has competed for this particular award before.

Raquel Welch, the movie star and model Playboy declared "the most desirable woman of the 1970s," has died at the age of 82. According to her manager, Steve Sauer, (via CNN) Welch passed away after a "brief illness."
Welch was a much-buzzed-about Hollywood ingenue throughout the early 1960s before attaining international stardom in 1966's sci-fi classic "Fantastic Voyage" and the prehistoric Hammer flick "One Million Years B.C." While the latter movie did little to enhance her reputation as an actor, the sight of Welch in a two-piece deerskin bikini made her the pin-up heir to Marilyn Monroe.
Welch's physical beauty was undeniable, and she embraced her sex symbol status. But the Latina performer, who adopted her first husband's last name to avoid the kind of typecasting that drove Rita Moreno from Hollywood at the height of her popularity, knew she was more than just a pretty face, and proved it time and again throughout her career.

Winner of an Emmy, Critics Choice Award, a Golden Globe and now a Pudding Pot, is there anything Jennifer Coolidge can’t do?
On February 4, 2023, Coolidge will lead a parade through Harvard Square before settling down for a roast in her honor by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. Then Coolidge will be presented with her very own Pudding Pot, after which there will be a press conference. Following all of that will be the opening night of the production “Cosmic Relief.”
The Hasty Pudding Club was founded in 1795 in a rebellion against Harvard’s poor meals offered to students. The club changed throughout the years, such as in 1801 when the rules stated there must be two roasts of members at each meeting, in 1844 with the birth of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, in 1889 with the first production of “Cosmic Relief” and in 1951 with the creation of the Woman of the Year award.

The United States had been at war a little over a year when the 15th Academy Awards were presented on March 4, 1943. It was the last year that the awards were celebrated at a lavish banquet; they would be moved to a theater setting in the ensuing years. The impact of World War II can be seen in the films honored, as well as the ceremony itself.
Popular musical star Jeannette MacDonald sang the National Anthem, and newly enlisted military privates Tyrone Power and Alan Ladd unfurled a flag that listed over 25,000 film industry members who had joined the armed forces. Bob Hope hosted the event, which saw one big winner, numerous patriotic choices and the first win for one of the industry’s biggest record-makers. Let’s flashback 80 years to the Oscars ceremony of 1943.

Jennifer Garner was crowned Hasty Pudding’s Theatrical Woman of the Year Saturday by members of Harvard University’s theater troupe, who honored her with a celebratory parade and, of course, the iconic pudding pot at a traditional roast.
With her Hasty Pudding medal secured around her neck, Garner was chauffeured around the streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts, in a red convertible Bentley. Surrounded by members of the troupe in drag, Garner was amazed by the crowds that came out to see her.
“This is crazy. This is nuts,” she cheered.
After hopping out of the car in front of Harvard’s Farkas Hall, the “Adam Project” star danced the can-can with students, kicking her legs high in the air.
Check out all the fun in the video at the top.
When Saturday night came, a different celebration took place: the bestowing of the famed pudding pot.

Shonda Rhimes has launched TV superstars before — such as the entire cast of “Grey’s Anatomy,” led by Ellen Pompeo. But even she was caught off guard by the uproar earlier this year when Netflix and her company Shondaland announced that Regé-Jean Page, everyone’s favorite duke, was leaving “Bridgerton” behind, and wouldn’t be appearing in the show’s second season.
“What I loved was we were going to create this powerful, exciting, amazing romance,” Rhimes says of the relationship between Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). And then for once in television, they were going to get to have their happily ever after versus — well, you know! Netflix is addressing complaints about Dave Chappelle‘s The Closer, the last in a string of stand-up specials that is being criticized for comments deemed “dangerously transphobic” by at least one member of the streaming service’s creative community. But one thing the service is not prepared to do is take down or alter Chappelle’s set.

“We can’t comprehend legal movements for justice without understanding Pauli’s role in them,” Chase Strangio, an ACLU attorney, declares partway through “My Name Is Pauli Murray.” This idea reverberates throughout the stirring documentary, which takes a much-needed deep dive into the life and work of Pauli Murray, a highly influential attorney and activist. Using a combination of archival footage, Murray’s own autobiographical words, and interviews with contemporary thinkers, the documentary begins with Murray’s early life and then continues on to chronicle their brilliant legal contributions and trailblazing activism.
In addition to their career as a lawyer, Murray was a gender rights advocate, a poet, the first Black non-male person to be ordained an Episcopal priest, and even a one-time Mademoiselle magazine “Woman of the Year.” Many of Murray’s beliefs and ideals were considered radical at the time, but they blazed on, and in doing so...
