As warfare with the local tribes heats up and as Wister gains awareness of the unconsummated romance growing between his wife and best friend, tragedy lurks.

Mrs. Wiggs sneaks her dishes past Stubbins, who agrees to marriage. Mr. Wiggs appears suddenly, in tatters, with just the amount of money ($20) needed to save the family from foreclosure. Miss Lucy and Bob get married.
- In 1876, a band of buffalo hunters assembles at Sprague's Trading Post and is joined by Tom Doan, fresh from a Kansas farm. At the post, Tom meets, and falls in love with, Milly Fayre, the stepdaughter of Randall Jett, the leader of a gang of notorious outlaws who make a brutal living robbing buffalo hunters. Milly and Tom are separated, and there is an Indian uprising sparked by the irresponsible slaughtering of the buffalo herds by white adventurers. Jett is killed by his own men, and Milly escapes, attempting to make her way back to civilization. She is chased by a party of hostile Indians and falls in front of a herd of stampeding buffalo. Tom rescues her. The buffalo hunters subdue the Indians, and Tom and Milly head back to civilization.
- Homesteaders Mace Corbin and Clyde Moss pick up much needed dynamite and begin a journey to transport it from an army fort to their homes, hiring a crew of ex-soldiers just released from the army prison. Mace knows he's got his work cut out for him with unstable dynamite, undisciplined hired hands and possible hostile Indians but he doesn't have the slightest hint that his trusted friend Clyde has betrayed him.

- The DS9 crew discovers a small colony on a remote world that was originally populated by them 200 years earlier due to a time-travel accident with the Defiant. The current colonists lives depend on making sure that accident happens again, even though they've now forwarned the crew that it will happen. Each crew member needs to decide if they are willing to give up their lives on DS9 in order to preserve the history of the colony.
