"No rules, no refs, and the chance to be remembered for a lifetime..." Rlj Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for the new remake of the original 1989 Kickboxer action classic, this one retitled to Kickboxer: Vengeance. Believe it or not, they actually got Jean-Claude Van Damme to come back (as a trainer), and the rest of the cast isn't so bad either. Canadian stuntman Alain Moussi plays the new young kickboxing hot shot, and he goes to battle against Dave Bautista as a guy named Tong Po. The cast also includes Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum, Matthew Ziff and Darren Shahlavi, among others. I don't have that many good things to say about this, as it's probably better to just watch the original Kickboxer instead, but maybe some people will be entertained. Have fun. In what is rapidly transforming from frustrating trend to infuriating plague on the sport, yet another massive Ufc main event is being scrapped at the last minute due to injury.
The highly-anticipated light heavyweight championship fight between current title-holder Daniel Cormier and the returning former champ Jon Jones is now off the card thanks to a reported leg-related injury suffered by Cormier.
The headliner of April 23rd’s Ufc 197 was a rematch of their previous title clash at Ufc 182, which “Bones” won by unanimous decision in what would be his final fight before being stripped of his championship due to multiple legal issues. Cormier then went on to defeat Anthony “Rumble” Johnson by submission for the held-up belt at Ufc 187 and defended it successfully against Alexander Gustafsson while Jones served his suspension.

Ufc fans have seen this kind of thing before: A great Pay-Per-View headline bout gets scrapped due to injury and the top undercard fight just doesn’t have the luster for PPV. Once upon a time, the first weekend of February 2016 was playing host to Ufc 196, with a headliner of Werdum vs. Velasquez 2 for the Ufc heavyweight championship. Then, former champ Cain Velasquez pulled out due to injury last week. In his place, Ufc announced that top contender Stipe Miocic would fight, and fans rejoiced – many preferred this match-up to Velasquez fighting, as he hadn’t won a fight since losing his title to Werdum last Summer.
Of course, the story didn’t end there. Fabricio Werdum, the current champ, then announced that he was pulling out of the fight due to injury – but added a twist when he said that had Velasquez stayed in the fight, he would have fought through the injury. Just not for Miocic, apparently. It’s the type of thing a fighter almost never admits to, and it caused a huge uproar in the fanbase.

While many have speculated on former WWE champion Cm Punk making his octagon debut at Ufc’s big show in July, the heavily anticipated Ufc 200, it appears there has been a change in plans: according to Ufc President Dana White, Punk’s first Ufc fight will now take place a little earlier, at Ufc 199 in June.

A little while back, it was announced that Cm Punk would in fact be part of EA’s Ufc 2, the hotly anticipated Mma game to be released later in 2016.
That wasn’t surprising, despite the fact that he has yet to have his first Ufc fight. After all, as a fighter under contract to the Ufc, they have every right to put him in there, regardless of his experience – and lets face it, his name will draw eyeballs just by being in the game. Love him or hate him, Punk brings exposure everywhere he goes. No way was EA going to lose out on that.
Now, the first image of Punk in the game has been released – as has, by way of an advanced report on the game – his in game rating. And it’s that rating that may ruffle some feathers.

Love him or hate him, Jon “Bones” Jones is an absolute beast.
Coming off of his impressive win over Daniel Cormier at Ufc 182, one of the main talking points surrounding Jon Jones was his place in history and his desire to become known as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all-time. In the post-fight press conference he admitted that he was willing to concede the honor to Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, but that he hopes to have surpassed them by the end of 2015.
He’s just being humble–a rarity for Jon Jones–because he’s already the greatest of all-time.
Who is truly the best ever is a hotly and often debated topic among Mma fans. A convincing case can only be made for a handful of guys, but depending on the criteria you’re using to evaluate them the list of potential candidates shrinks even smaller.

Ufc
There are two big Ufc events coming your way this weekend, and the second of them (we’ll cover more on the Tuf 20 finale once the fights are set following the final episode of the show) features the return to action of former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, lightweight Nate Diaz, and long-absent Stefan Struve.
This is a big card for a Fox event, and if they don’t totally kill it with too many commercial breaks, it should be a pretty exciting one. That said, it could also be a very short event, with the three heavyweight bouts on the card all capable of ending in a quick knockout. Should that happen, the Ufc may be looking to bump up a fight from the preliminary card onto the main broadcast as a reply to fill time – and luckily, there are enough decent fights on the prelims for this to be doable.

After a rather lackluster October, the Ufc has several events in November featuring mouthwatering fights. The disappointment of Cain Velasquez being injured was a massive blow to Ufc 180. That doesn’t take away from what should be a fascinating interim title bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mark Hunt. You’ll never hear many complaints about two top-level heavyweights headlining an event.
There are still several other fights to look forward to this month. We’ll see the first ever live event from Mexico. There will also be intriguing matchups in cities such as Sydney and Austin. Despite the well-justified claim of over saturation, there is one benefit to having more events. We get to see more five round fights for a matchup that people have been waiting to see for weeks. Five round fights can also give fans an indication on whether the fighter is ready to challenge for a title shot or not.

It’s out with the old, in with the new over at Bellator this Summer, as founder Bjorn Rebney has been cut loose, and Strikeforce founder Scott Coker has been brought in to replace him. Coker has a lot of goodwill in the Mma world with both fans and fighters from his Strikeforce days. Originally a kickboxing promotion, Strikeforce got into the Mma game in 2006 and quickly became the number two promotion in the world, with fights airing live on Showtime. According to a report by Fox Sports, Brandon Vera, who once promised to hold a belt in two weight classes in the Ufc, has been released by the promotion – or two be more specific, the two sides have “cut ties.”
Vera started his tenure with the company in 2005, at Ultimate Fight Night 2 where he won via Ko against Fabiano Scherner. After a 3-0 run at heavyweight, it was announced that his next match, against Frank Mir, would be a title eliminator.
It looked like Vera’s promise of holding two belts would have a chance of coming to fruition – especially after he won the Mir fight by Tko. However, a contract dispute saw him lose his shot at the belt. He would then suffer the first two losses of his career, to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum, before dropping to light heavyweight.

Cain and Junior went head-to-head for the third time on Oct. 19 for Ufc 166, and Cain made a conclusive statement, beating his arch-rival with a convincing Tko finish.
Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos headed into Ufc 166 on Oct. 19 with one win each under their belts — this third match would decide who the real Ufc champion was. And when the dust settled, and the blood stopped splashing down on the mat, Cain was the one to emerge triumphant.
Cain Velasquez Defeats Junior Dos Santos At Ufc 166
It doesn’t look like a fourth fight between these two is going to be necessary. Cain was clearly the better fighter at Ufc 166, as Junior struggled to keep up with his aggressive style and flurry of attacks.
“[The game plan] was the same as the last fight,” Cain told Espn after the match. “Pressure, but throw better punches. Crisper punches, so I could beat him to the punch.

Mma is widely acknowledged as one of the least predictable of any sport. The phrase ‘anything can happen in the Octagon’ has become idiomatic in the Ufc community as fans have all too often been left scratching their heads after one of the sport’s supposed greats has been beaten by someone everybody had cast off as a hack. Regardless of how dominant a champion is, put any adult male against them wearing flimsy 4-ounce gloves and they’ll still have a [very small] chance of connecting with a lucky shot: now substitute this every-man figure for an actual fighter who, despite being dismissed as the underdog, has still managed to ascend the heights of the sport’s premier promotion, the Ufc.
Everyone is mortal and anybody is capable of having an off-night. This unpredictability is part of the reason for the Ufc’s trailblazing expansion over the last 5 or so years...

Is there a more hard-working band on the planet than Paramore? The group is about to head off on yet another cross-country trek, as their headlining gig on the annual Honda Civic Tour kicks off next Friday, July 23, at the Raleigh Boutique Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina (they'll be joined by Tegan and Sara, New Found Glory and Kadawatha). And even when the group isn't in front of a horde of screaming fans, they still make an incredible effort to stay connected to their followers (especially singer Hayley Williams, who has mastered the art of Twitter jiu-jitsu).
But even the most committed artists need a day off once in a while, and for Williams, today is that day. Before she called it a night on Tuesday (July 13), she tweeted, "Tomorrow is my first real day off in so long that I'm sort of nervous about it."
