Steven Spielberg has made some of the greatest films that will forever stand the test of time. The director has made films in every genre and has shown that he is a master at evoking awe and emotion in everything he does. In the 90s, Spielberg made two drastically different films based on World War II, considered among his best works.
Tom Hanks led the ensemble cast of Saving Private Ryan | Paramount Pictures
While 1993 Schindler’s List, focused on a German industrialist saving a thousand Polish Jews, 1998’s Saving Private Ryan dealt with a group of soldiers trying to locate the titular Ryan in Normandy. Tom Hanks played the lead role in the latter but several actors like Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford were considered before the Forrest Gump star.

Independent distributor Neon just scored another cool horror flick – they’ve acquired worldwide rights to the upcoming documentary/found footage hybrid Shelby Oaks. Even better, it’s the directorial debut of YouTube movie reviewer Chris Stuckmann!
Shelby Oaks follows Camille Sullivan as she searches for her missing sister, played by Sarah Durn. Her sister disappeared while filming her paranormal investigation web series. Brendan Sexton III also stars in what sounds like a creepy mystery.
What’s really wild is how the movie got made. Stuckmann’s production company launched a Kickstarter that raised over $1.3 million – making it the highest funded horror film ever on the site! Exec producers include Mike Flanagan and Adam Goldberg too.
Neon plans a theatrical release in the US and will handle international sales. They negotiated the deal with Stuckmann’s production company Paper Street Pictures.

“The Exorcism” is a movie directed by Joshua John Miller starring Russell Crowe, Ryan Simpkins and Sam Worthington.
Russell Crowe returns to our screens for the second time this year in a film all about exorcism. In “The Exorcism”, we are taken into the fictitious production of an Exorcist (1973) remake. Crowe portrays a downtrodden actor tasked with playing the exorcist, a role he struggles with due to personal problems.
The script cleverly plays with the concept of a film within a film, an idea that is neatly wrapped up within a horror film. Regrettably, it’s not Russell Crowe that is at fault here, but the film itself, which fails to build a coherent and enticing narrative. It seems to be caught in a grey area between being a jump-scare horror flick and a well-rounded character drama.

In Steven Spielberg's 1998 war film "Saving Private Ryan," a poor beleaguered American mother saw her four sons -- Sean, Peter, Daniel, and James -- shipped off to fight during World War II. Not too long thereafter, the former three were killed in action. James Ryan (Matt Damon), the survivor, was stationed far away and was incommunicado. The U.S. Army, wanting to spare Mother Ryan the trauma of four dead sons (three was enough), assigned Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) to locate and rescue Private James Ryan and bring him home.
The bulk of "Saving Private Ryan" is told from the perspective of Captain Miller and his platoon. As they trek closer and closer to Private Ryan, their mission becomes more and more dangerous, and it won't be long before some of them begin getting killed in action as well. As one might imagine, Miller and his surviving platoon members...

The horror film The Exorcism, which was formerly known as The Georgetown Project and stars Russell Crowe, received a theatrical release in North America on June 21st (you can read our review Here) – and now we’ve learned that it’s scheduled for VOD release just two and half weeks after it hit the big screen. As of July 9th, genre fans will have the chance to watch The Exorcism in the comfort of their own home.
Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter. He actually worked on this movie before making The Pope’s Exorcist – in fact, The Exorcism was first announced four and a half years ago. So it’s good to see it finally making its way out into the world.

One would be forgiven for not knowing it, but a new exorcism movie starring Oscar-winner Russell Crowe hit theaters this past weekend. No, we're not talking about last year's "The Pope's Exorcist." Rather, we are talking about a brand new film from Vertical Entertainment simply titled "The Exorcism" that was, more or less, dumped after sitting on the shelf for several years. Unfortunately, the film is a flop in the early going by most metrics. However, it now holds a record for the folks at Vertical, representing the company's biggest opening weekend ever, amazingly enough.
Director Joshua John Miller's "The Exorcism" opened to $2.4 million, coming at number seven on the charts behind John Krasinski's "If" ($2.7 million), a movie in its sixth weekend in theaters that is already on VOD. Not exactly a blockbuster. That said, the number was big enough to overtake 2018's "Gotti" ($1.7 million) to become Vertical's biggest opener.

After four successful seasons, Queen Latifah's Robyn McCall is not slowing down now in the exciting CBS show, The Equalizer.
It can't be easy to reimagine a role that the legendary Denzel Washington once played, but Queen Latifah does it with all the grace and strength of someone who has been in the television industry for over thirty years.
She has amassed over one hundred award nominations and thirty wins in her career, including two Critics' Choice awards, two Golden Globes, a Grammy, an Emmy, a People's Choice award, and three Screen Actors Guild awards.
Wouldn't you give her her own show?!
Queen Latifah is film and television royalty who continues to remind us of why she's an industry staple.
She is versatile enough to easily step into any genre, from action and drama to comedic and romantic.

Review: Just last year, we saw the release of The Pope’s Exorcist, and now, less than one year later, we’ve got Russell Crowe returning to the genre with a similar title. But outside of being about possession and starring Russell Crowe, these films could not be more different. Announced 5 years ago and even filmed before Pope’s Exorcist, The Exorcism was hit with delay after delay. That’s not often a great sign concerning a movie’s quality, but the June release seemed to show a little more faith in the product than expected. Unfortunately, the film fails to deliver anything outside of some decent performances.

In The Exorcism, Russell Crowe plays an actor and recovering addict terrorized by demons, personal and otherwise. His character, an actor on the set of a fictional horror movie, also happens to be terrorized by a cruel director (Adam Goldberg), something with which director Joshua John Miller has a lot of experience.
Joshua John Miller, who co-wrote The Exorcism with M.A. Fortin (The Final Girls), pulled from personal experiences when creating his psychological family drama meets possession horror story. It’s hard not to see the parallels between the director and Crowe’s character, Arthur Miller, an actor struggling to find his footing again when he lands a role as the priest in an exorcism horror movie. Joshua John Miller, the son of late actor Jason Miller (The Exorcist), started his film career as an actor at age eight and amassed notable acting credits that include Halloween III: Season of the Witch,...

It’s a shame that The Exorcism, co-written and directed by Joshua John Miller — the son of The Exorcist actor Jason Miller — is a sloppy and unsatisfying genre exhumation. Miller and co-author M.A. Fortin flaunted oodles of metatextual proficiency with their superb horror-comedy The Final Girls that are nowhere to be found in their sophomore feature. Miller’s direction chases New Nightmare and Scream 3 highs by seeking inspiration from supposed haunted productions like The Exorcist and Poltergeist, but behind-the-scenes perspectives are frequently and confusingly dropped like a hot potato. The Exorcism fails the prospect of a bible-verse-chanting exorcism on a horror film set, spiraling from mundanity into a third act that abandons conceptual intrigue for the most forgettable finale imaginable.

Russell Crowe (The Pope’s Exorcist) stars in the new possession horror movie The Exorcism, which Vertical has brought to theaters nationwide beginning today, June 21.
Crowe plays a Hollywood actor in the meta horror film, and he suits up as a faux exorcist in the exclusive sneak preview clip below. You’ll also find the film’s trailer underneath.
Joshua John Miller, who wrote 2015’s The Final Girls and also starred in films including Near Dark and And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird, directed The Exorcism.
Joshua John Miller also wrote the script with M.A. Fortin (The Final Girls). This one is personal for Miller, as his late father was the star of the best possession movie ever made.
Miller said in a statement, “The origins of the film stem from my childhood spent watching my father, Jason Miller, playing the doomed Father Karras flinging himself out a window at the climax of The Exorcist.

Making a film that trades on the mysterious production problems with the original The Exorcist seems like a good idea. But how to go about such a meta task?
Within the film-within-a-film genre, there’s a sub-genre: think Willem Dafoe as a vampire/actor in Shadow of the Vampire or Nicole Kidman as a witch/actor in the disastrous comedy flop Bewitched.
Obviously, remaking The Exorcist would be a daunting project. But The Exorcism is a film about that daunting project. And the lead character is possessed.
If you were expecting Regan, the girl, to be possessed, I can’t blame you. But no, this time, it’s the priest who is possessed.
The Exorcism has nothing in common with last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist except that RussellCrowe stars in both. It’s also not related to the recent Exorcist: Believer. But since they’re both Exorcist-inspired films with wide release,...

Joshua John Miller’s possession horror The Exorcism hits theatres this weekend, giving us all another dose of Religious Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys). This go-around, Crowe plays struggling actor Anthony MIller, recovering from a decade of bad press and hard living, desperate for his newest picture (an exorcism movie) to bring him back into the light. Its scares are pretty boilerplate, but it’s got a great concept and a self-aware understanding of what kind of movie it is which makes for some great moments of meta horror. Of course, above all else, it stars Russell Crowe which, for most of us, is reason alone to buy a ticket.
We’re all still living in the post-glow of Julius Avery’s surprise hit The Pope’s Exorcist. An immediate cultural sensation (if you’re consuming the right culture), Russell Crowe gave us the performance of the year as Father Gabriel Amorth,...

What’s Good: The production’s technical aspects are fine, and the production design inside the film within a film provides a cool environment to explore.
What’s Bad: The plot is a mess and the editing seems like complete chaos, which hinders the entire film as many things seem to come out of nowhere.
Loo Break: Sadly, the movie fails to retain attention from the viewer constantly, and this results in many boring parts.
Watch or Not?: Watch only if you are a huge fan of exorcism films, if not, this is a pass.

Director Joshua John Miller has a distinctly personal perspective on William Friedkin’s seminal horror classic The Exorcist: his father, Jason Miller, played the reluctant protagonist Father Karras. Yet, seeing his father die on screen in a horror movie isn’t the sole source of inspiration behind The Exorcism, an ambitious, personal piece of meta-horror. Miller and co-writer/partner M.A. Fortin (The Final Girls) channel their rage and experiences with grief into a family psychological drama, one that uses possession horror as connective tissue. However, combining personal family drama with scathing critiques of the Church and Hollywood ultimately means that The Exorcism struggles under the immense weight of its ambition.

The Exorcist directed by William Friedkin and written by William Peter Blatty is considered, still, perhaps the greatest horror film of all time, certainly the most popular. The 1973 movie was even nominated for 10 Oscars and won two, unheard of in the genre at that time. It has been endlessly imitated for the past half century right up to now, recently and notably David Gordon Green’s critically reviled 2023 reboot The Exorcist: Believer, which even brought original Exorcist star Ellen Burstyn back into the fold after all these decades. But the Og is impossible to touch, so what was going through Joshua John Miller’s mind when he decided to take on a new film so closely linked to it?
Director and co-writer (with M.A. Fortin) of The Exorcism, Miller has the 1973 film in his family bones, even if he wasn’t born until a year after its release. His father is Jason Miller,...

However you look at it, the fact that Russell Crowe has chosen to make two exorcist movies in as many years is a very strange decision. It’s like Jason Statham deciding to play another bee-keeper, or Glen Powell playing another hitman. Whatever the reasoning behind his decision, Crowe’s second exorcism movie, The Exorcism, is sadly disappointing, a murky, near-nonsensical effort with nothing to offer but jump scares.
In fairness, you can maybe see Crowe’s thinking when you take a closer look at the film’s pedigree. It’s directed by Joshua John Miller, the son of Jason Miller, who played Father Damien in William Friedkin’s The Exorcist. Similarly, rather than playing an actual exorcist, as he did in last year’s The Pope’s Exorcist,...

No, you're eyes are not deceiving you, nor is this a trick being played on you by Satan, the father of all lies. "The Exorcism" is a new exorcism movie starring Russell Crowe, and it has nothing to do with Crowe's previously released "The Pope's Exorcist." I gave that film a less-than-favorable review when it first opened, but I've come to appreciate its B-movie charms, as well as its scenes of the large Crowe scooting around Rome on a tiny Vespa. Now that I've seen "The Exorcism," I appreciate "The Pope's Exorcist" even more. At least that movie was somewhat enjoyable on a cheesy level, unlike "The Exorcism," which is drab, morose, and ultimately weak. But I'll say this for Crowe: just as in "The Pope's Exorcist," he's not phoning it in. He seems fully committed to his part here, even if the movie itself feels beneath him.

The behind-the-scenes story of the Russell Crowe horror vehicle The Exorcism is arguably more interesting than the film itself. Shot in 2019, the movie directed by Joshua Jason Miller was almost abandoned because of production shutdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the moderate financial success of The Pope’s Exorcist (also starring Crowe) allowed them to revive the film and conduct reshoots. While The Exorcism is not exactly a great movie, it’s decent enough that viewers won’t regret its resurrection.
The Exorcism follows an actor with a troubled past (Crowe) who gets a role in a horror film on a set that is rumored to be cursed, causing those around him to wonder if his erratic behavior is due to his past addictions or something more sinister. I used to simply think there were a lot of exorcist movies. There are, but that doesn’t quite say it. There are so many exorcist movies that starting long ago they began to add up to something larger than the sum of their writhing, low-devil-voice-talking, mottled-gray-skin-with-carved-crucifix parts. When “The Exorcist” came out 50 years ago, it fed into the rise of the new fundamentalist culture. Because the whole thing about “The Exorcist” is that it felt like it was bigger than a movie. It was making an announcement: The devil is here — and if that is so, maybe it means God is here too.
That’s why exorcist movies never went away. They feed our primal ecclesiastical horror nostalgia by feeding something else: our desire to glimpse the devil in the flesh (and maybe God as a bonus). It helped, in a strange way, that the vast majority of exorcist films are B-movie trash.

There are several similarities between the Catholic Church and the film industry. Among them is a tendency to let powerful people get away with unconscionable behavior. In that insidious overlap, director Joshua John Miller finds the heart of “The Exorcism,” an ambitious social commentary that commingles Hollywood’s penchant for wrongdoing with the abuses of the Vatican for a unique portrait of an actor unraveled.
On the one hand, it’s a mediocre genre movie with a title as mundane as it is misleading. On the other hand, even as a muddy character study making only the weakest attempts to scare, “The Exorcis-m” is still a bigger treat for fans of “The Exorcis-t” than its recent flop sequel, “The Exorcist: Believer.”
Why? In a year that’s already seen two major horror movies competing for the title of Best Virgin Nun to Give Birth to the Antichrist, Miller and co-writer...

Director/co-writer Joshua John Miller has family history with horror. As a child actor, he was the kid vampire in Near Dark. Also, he’s the son of playwright-turned-actor Jason Miller, who played Father Karras in The Exorcist — the obvious model for the film-within-a-film being remade in The Exorcism. With star Russell Crowe riffing on well-publicised real-life difficulties, this is plainly a more personal (and unofficial) Exorcist add-on than, say, last year’s The Exorcist: Believer.
Though it has that low-light gloom of many recent horror films, The Exorcism is as much behind-the-scenes showbiz drama as shocker. Director Peter (Adam Goldberg) — such a snake you suspect the screenwriters have someone in mind — tries to get a performance out of washed-up Anthony Miller (Crowe) the way demons in possession movies try to destroy priests, spitting out wounding, vicious comments designed to scar the psyche.
Russell Crowe is more tragic than terrifying.

It’s crazy to think that Joshua John Miller’s The Exorcism was first announced back in 2019. The world has changed a lot since then and we’ve even gotten a similarly titled Russell Crowe movie in the meantime. Yet the only thing that The Exorcism shares with The Pope’s Exorcist (outside of its lead) is the subject matter. Because otherwise, this is a very different film, both in tone and plot. Following a film within a film about the remake of The Exorcist (although not by name) provides a unique opportunity. Many possession stories can feel rather “samey” so it’s nice to finally get a unique slant on it.

Steven Spielberg has crafted many a spectacular story throughout his mighty Hollywood tenure, but it’s films like Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan that put him on the map as a man reborn. After an exultant run at the box office and a gala time at the ’99 Oscars, the Tom Hanks-led war/action film continues to be one of Spielberg’s greatest accomplishments.

The horror film The Exorcism, which was formerly known as The Georgetown Project and stars Russell Crowe, was once set to receive a North American theatrical release on June 7th, but you may have noticed that it’s not currently in theatres. That’s because it was pushed back to June 21st – and with that date one week away, a pair of clips from the film have arrived online. You can watch one in the embed above, and the other can be found at the bottom of this article.
So it’s good to see that it’s finally making its way out into the world.

Steven Spielberg is responsible for creating some of the most unforgettable films of all time. From Schindler’s List to Jurassic Park, the filmmaker has time and again proven that no one has a mind quite like him. With his 1998 film Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg gave the film industry one of the greatest films ever made.
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998)
However, there was a time when the film was met with a roadblock which could have ended with the cast of Saving Private Ryan walking out on Steven Spielberg. In order to make the film feel as realistic as possible, the filmmaker made the actors go through an extensive boot camp led by a Marine Corps veteran. Exhausted by the ordeals of Captain Dale Dye’s tasks, the cast of Saving Private Ryan almost quit their jobs before lead actor Tom Hanks changed their minds.

Remember how Liam Neeson, at one point in his career, decided he would play only action heroes and how most of his recent characters were basically Bryan Mills from Taken in a different context? Well, it seems that another acting legend has chosen the same path, as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is once again going to play an exorcist in the upcoming movie The Exorcism, which is set to be released on June 7, 2024. Now, the first official trailer for the movie has been released and we are going to show it to you below.
Now, our introduction was – in case you do not know – like this because Russel Crowe starred as an exorcist in the 2023 movie The Pope’s Exorcist, which – believe it or not – has absolutely no connection to The Exorcism. It seems that Crowe liked the previous role so he decided to reprise it but in a completely unrelated movie.

The Equalizer has drawn very good ratings for CBS. Still, it's also co-produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), which is a negative in the economics of network television these days. A couple of years ago, the Magnum Pi reboot was cancelled by CBS when the companies couldn't come to a financial agreement that worked for both sides. Will The Equalizer be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

Before I ever saw William Friedkin's classic horror film "The Exorcist," my mother gleefully shared with me all of the horrific urban legends and unexplained mysteries that surrounded the film's production. She believed, as do countless others, that "The Exorcist" was one of many cursed films. The face of a possessed Regan MacNeil was terrifying, to be sure, but movie magic meant to scare me couldn't hold a candle to the inexplicable dread that had me convinced filmmakers daring to tell this story made them a target for actual evil. While I'm old enough now to know better than to believe in cursed films, it's still a fascinating rabbit hole to fall into. Hell, the horror movie streaming app Shudder even has a two-season documentary series called, you guessed it, "Cursed Films" discussing cinema's most controversial and conspiracy-surrounded film sets. Now, a new narrative horror film is dabbling in the world of cursed films,...

It may not have been his plan, but Russell Crowe is capitalizing on the return of the iconic “The Exorcist” franchise with separate standalone religious horror films “The Exorcism,” out June 7, and 2023’s “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Crowe leads Joshua John Miller’s “The Exorcism” as an actor facing demons — maybe literal ones. Consider it a meta twist: The film centers on Anthony Miller (Crowe), a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.
The buzzy cast includes Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, David Hyde Pierce, Josh Warren, Adrian Pasdar, and Tracey Bonner.
Director Miller co-wrote the script with M.A. Fortin. “The Exorcism” marks Miller and Fortin’s second feature, after the 2015 horror comedy “The Final Girls.” They also co-created the...

"Can he be saved?" Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a horror thriller film titled The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe - though it's not related to his other exorcism film The Pope's Exorcist from last year. This was originally titled The Georgetown Project, but they gave it this new title that will confuse people into thinking it's related to the classic The Exorcist. Though it sort of is. This film is made by Joshua John Miller, son of actor Jason Miller, who played the doomed Father Karras in the original Exorcist film. It's inspired by his experiences growing up knowing his dad played that role. A troubled actor begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he's slipping back into his past addictions or if there's something more sinister at play. Also starring Ryan Simpkins, Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, Samantha Mathis, & David Hyde Pierce.

Russell Crowe (The Pope’s Exorcist) is starring in a brand new meta possession horror movie titled The Exorcism, and Vertical has unleashed the official trailer this afternoon.
Vertical has picked up the North American rights to The Exorcism, which they’ll be bringing to theaters on June 7. Shudder is also on board to bring the film home later this year.
