Possession is a relatively common topic on this channel and show and that’s probably because it’s something that has been recorded and pushed as factual by the people claiming to be possessed or investigators for a long time. It generally falls under the scope of he said/she said with most of the presented evidence as fact being very up for interpretation. These are almost always then turned into movies as that open for interpretation aspect of it can lead to a bunch of elements being added for entertainment and dramatic purposes. Today we look at a movie that is based on a book that was inspired by a true story. It’s not exactly possession but it is a poltergeist of a movie that is something very different and was taken quite seriously in both real life and as a movie. The Entity (buy it Here) is...

This first Hollywood studio feature with a black female director is a compelling account of a South African who turns against the ruling caste
In the late 80s, there were a number of films about apartheid South Africa that somehow made the black experience dramatically subordinate to white liberal activism. Chris Menges’s A World Apart from 1988 had Barbara Hershey as the white campaigner based on anti-apartheid activist Ruth First; the year before that, Richard Attenborough’s excruciatingly well-intentioned Cry Freedom was supposedly about the friendship between white journalist Donald Woods (Kevin Kline) and Steve Biko (Denzel Washington), but contrived to put Woods at the centre of the action, all but forgetting about Biko. Euzhan Palcy’s A Dry White Season from 1989, now released on Blu-ray, looks on the face of it to be the same sort of thing. And yet this movie is much tougher and shrewder on what...

Hallowed: Chapter 1 — A Fantasy Horror Comic: "Civil war has ravaged the country of Metazoa as two opposing faiths crusade for the holy city of Bilateria. Broken, beaten, and starving, a band of deserters make a desperate trek across their war-torn homeland in an attempt to escape their sins and the religious zealots pursuing them. Leading them is "Knight Tearer" Flagg, a killing machine as disillusioned as he is deadly. His goal? A ship—then Terroir, a land across the sea supposedly free of war and prejudice. He just needs to get his men there, no easy task considering the miles of frozen wasteland ahead of him and the Apostles behind, a ruthless group of soldiers tasked with snuffing out heresy and executing deserters. The situation is grim, almost hopeless, when out of nowhere...a forest appears. And in the center? A curious and ancient tower. Regardless of "how" or "why,...

We have good news to share, horror fans. There's another new horror movie you should be on the lookout for this August, and it's the film Strange Darling, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. This movie joins other theatrical horror flicks slated to be released in August, such as Cuckoo starring Hunter Schafer and M. Night Shyamalan's Trap.
Strange Darling is a horror-thriller written and helmed by indie American genre filmmaker Jt Mollner. This is his second feature. He's best known for writing the script for and directing the Western film Outlaws and Angels, which stars Chad Michael Murray, Francesca Eastwood, Teri Polo, Frances Fisher, Luke Wilson, Madisen Beaty, and Ben Browder. Joining Mollner in the crew is Giovanni Ribisi, who not only produced the horror-thriller flick but also served as Director of Photography. Other producers of the film include Bill Block, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Chris Ivan Cevic.

"How did I get so lucky tonight?" Magenta Light Studios has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Strange Darling, the second feature from genre filmmaker Jt Mollner. This premiered at Fantastic Fest last year and picked up some rave reviews, some of which are featured in this trailer. Everyone says to go in without knowing anything about it, and no one has said what is really happening here. The only brief synopsis says that it's "one day in the twisted love life of a serial killer." Starring Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, Ed Begley Jr., Giovanni Ribisi, and Barbara Hershey. Ribisi is also the film's Dp. Fangoria says, "watching the film's non-linear structure unfold was a pure cinematic thrill." Adding that it's "the most harrowing, surprising thriller of the year." Well damn if that isn't some high praise! Those who've seen it say this trailer doesn't spoil much either.

Just before Halloween back in 2022, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. A few months ago, we learned that Magenta Light Studios will be giving Strange Darling a wide theatrical release in the United States on August 23rd – and now a trailer has arrived online to give us a preview of what this movie will have in store for us when it reaches the big screen in a couple months. You can check it out in the embed above.

Rolling Stone exclusively debuts the trailer today, which features stars Willa Fitzgerald (Reacher, Scream series) and Kyle Gallner (Smile, 2022 Scream) rendezvousing for a one-night stand amid a serial killer’s murder spree.

“I knew daredevils — and I ain’t got nothing against ‘em — it’s just they’re all dead.”
So says the titular character of “The Stunt Man” to his trainer the first time his desire for mortality is put into question. The theme of death is a constant one in this 1980 film. It’s what propels the main character, Vietnam-Vet Cameron, to go on the run — the state in which we meet him at the beginning of the film. It’s what draws him to a movie set near the beach where dozens of bodies are ripped apart, sporting soldier’s uniforms from World War I, and buried across the sand. It’s what fascinates the film’s director, Eli Cross, whose need to draw reality out of a production that’s drowning in artifice places Cameron in the precarious position of both stuntman and muse. David Anspaugh's 1986 sports drama "Hoosiers" has gone down in history as one of the most influential sports dramas ever made. Partly inspired by the real-life story of the 1954 Indiana state champions Milan High School, "Hoosiers" focuses on formerly-disgraced basketball coach Norman Dale (Gene Hackman), who gets a rare second chance to prove his mettle at Indiana's Hickory High School. The rather tight-knit town of Hickory seems a little too unforgiving towards Norman due to his sketchy past, but redemption finds its way to him via a David vs. Goliath situation that soon transforms into a classic underdog tale about dreaming big and achieving the impossible.
Some of the more saccharine themes in "Hoosiers" might feel a tad corny at times, but it is a film that brandishes sincere authenticity when it comes to the magic of unexpected second chances and the highs and lows of small-town sports. Moreover, a...

Beacon 23 is a sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Zak Penn. The MGM+ series has finally returned for its second season, filmed simultaneously with its first season. Based on a short story series of the same name by Hugh Lowey, the sci-fi series is set in the 23rd century and it tells us the story of two strangers stranded together at the end of the known universe at a lighthouse in space.
Season 2 picks up the story right where the first ended and we see Halan trying to figure out Aster’s fate and handle a military attack. Glen Mazzara and Joy Blake take the helm as co-showrunners for Season 2 replacing Zak Penn. So, if you loved the first season of Beacon 23 and are excited about what’s coming, we are here to keep you informed.

Paramount Pictures had good reason to believe Adrian Lyne's "Fatal Attraction" would be another box office smash for the hit-making studio (which had just dominated 1986 with five of the ten highest-grossing movies of that year — including the top two in "Top Gun" and "Crocodile Dundee"), but they couldn't have anticipated the film becoming a full-blown, adult-skewing blockbuster. Nevertheless, the erotic thriller about an extramarital fling that turns into a waking nightmare for the happily married Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) outperformed such heavy hitters as "Beverly Hills Cop II," "The Untouchables," and "Lethal Weapon" to become the second highest-grossing film of 1987 (behind the four-quadrant behemoth "Three Men and a Baby").
Why was the film such a pop cultural sensation? Every single element clicked perfectly into place. Lyne brought the sensual heat, James Dearden's screenplay tightened the screws with nerve-jangling precision, and the stars absolutely smoldered. Douglas and Glenn Close...

While enjoying a deluge of praise for his latest awards contender, Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese is already teasing his next project. Last summer, after attending the Global Aesthetics of the Catholic Imagination conference in Italy, Scorsese said he met with Pope Francis and intended to make a film about Jesus Christ. A portion of Scorsese’s loyal fanbase rejoiced at the idea, and now new details about his plans have come to light. Speaking with the LA Times, the legendary filmmaker says he’s rolling cameras on the film A Life of Jesus later this year.
A Life of Jesus is based on Shūsaku Endō’s book of the same name. The story focuses on a simple and powerful retelling of the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of a Japanese novelist. Kent Jones, a critic, filmmaker, and former mainstay of the New York Film Festival,...

In discussions of the greatest American filmmakers of all-time, the name :a[Martin Scorsese]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/irishman-week-martin-scorsese-interview/' target='blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} is guaranteed to turn up. Since making his directorial breakthrough with :a[Mean Streets]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/mean-streets-review/' target='blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} some 50 years ago, the man they call Marty has – alongside a troupe of reliable collaborators both behind and in front of the camera – contributed more bona-fide masterpieces to the cinematic canon than most other filmmakers you could name. And he’s done so whilst continually reinventing himself, honing his own craft whilst supporting and advocating for the cinematic experience and its preservation all over the world.

The legendary test pilot Chuck Yeager took Philip Kaufman, the writer/director of the lauded 1983 space race epic “The Right Stuff,” for a ride in his plane during production. And at one point the man who broke the sound barrier in 1947 turned over the controls to Kaufman as he also turned off the engine. “He thought it would scare me being one of the ‘Hollywood’ guys,” Kaufman told me in a 2003 L.A. Times interview. “I just sort of looked at him and smiled, because I knew there was something blessed about this man. The funny thing about Yeager is that he would drive out to the sets, particularly in the high desert, and he would not go above the speed limit. He was the fastest man alive, but he wouldn’t go over 55 because he knew how dangerous it was on the highway”

What is the thread that runs through the revered director’s films? Ahead of his latest, Killers of the Flower Moon, a critic watches all of them to find out
In the final scene of Martin Scorsese’s second feature film Boxcar Bertha, the luckless heroine, played by Barbara Hershey, vainly pursues the freight car from which her labour organiser lover (David Carradine) is dangling, having just been crucified by capitalist goons. The sequence foreshadows the scene in his 11th film, The Last Temptation of Christ, where Hershey, now playing the luckless Mary Magdalene, will again see her inamorata crucified. As before, he falls victim to goons.
An unsatisfactory love affair will result in a completely unexpected crucifixion in Gangs of New York – goons again – while crucifixions with no explicitly erotic subtext occur all over the place in Silence. I know all this because I just spent a month watching...

Phyllis Coates, the first actress to play Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane on television, only to leave the Adventures of Superman after just one season, has died. She was 96.
Coates, who also appeared in Republic Pictures serials and in such films as I Was a Teenage Frankenstein, died Wednesday of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, her daughter Laura Press told The Hollywood Reporter.
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Coates first portrayed the headstrong Lois opposite George Reeves as the Man of Steel in the dark sci-fi movie Superman and the Mole Men (1951).
The success of that Lippert Pictures film — the first full-length theatrical feature starring the comic-book hero — led to the quick decision to start production on a syndicated show for television.

The synopsis for Strange Darling really says it all. Written and directed by Jt Mollner the mysterious thriller is “one day in the twisted love life of a serial killer”. Starring Willa Fitzgerald (The Goldfinch) and Kyle Gallner, who genre fans will no doubt recognize from Smile and Jennifer’s Body (just to name a few) Strange Darling is a cat-and-mouse story set over a short period of time, presented in a jumbled fashion like Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill (or any other Quentin Tarantino movie for that matter).
Honestly, the less you know about this one going in, the better. It does have a few cards hidden up its sleeve but the whole bloody affair really hinges on the ever-surprising performances of its two leads. Kyle Gallner is electric in pretty much everything you’ve seen him in and he’s just as engaging a performer here, but Willa...

Serial-killer movies are a dime a dozen these days, with the true-crime industrial complex exploiting the ill-deeds sprees of increasingly obscure murderers to keep up with audience demand. Anyone wary of the genre might balk at the idea of “Strange Darling,” a cat-and-mouse drama about the tail end of a murder spree, but to do so would be to miss out on an exemplar of the form. Writer-director Jt Mollner flips the script on this tired genre, crafting the cleverest thriller of its kind in a while with a mighty assist from a pair of killer performances by co-leads Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. Best experienced with as little foreknowledge as possible, “Strange Darling” demands a bit of patience, but it also rewards it.

[Editor's Note: This article was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the film being discussed here wouldn't exist.]
There’s a scene in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling where Ed Begley Jr. makes breakfast. He chars sausages, unsheathes and melts a stick of yellow butter, then cracks a messload of eggs and leaves them to bubble while pouring out thick globs of pancake batter in a second pan. He layers the cakes with the eggs and encased pork meat and yet more butter before drowning the whole thing in whipped cream that promptly starts to liquefy. He places the mess in front of his wife (Barbara Hershey), who comically offsets the caloric mound by placing a single, wimpy red strawberry on top. This scene is almost certainly unintentionally illustrative of Moller’s approach to his sophomore feature: a twisty cat and mouse thriller so overstuffed with delicious elements that it’s constantly on the verge of becoming too much of a good thing.

“Do you have any idea the kind of risks a woman like me takes every time she decides to have a little bit of fun?” So says our female protagonist in writer/director Jt Mollner‘s Strange Darling, a film that dares us to question the roles men and women are expected to play. Are women just prudes who don’t love casual sex? Are men just rapist serial killers waiting for their next mark? What exactly are the boundaries of consent? Strange Darling asks these questions, making for a smarter-than-you’d-expect entry into the cat and mouse thriller genre.

To celebrate the release of Hannah and Her Sisters on Blu-Ray and DVD on August 28th, we have Blu-Rays to give away to 2 lucky winners!
One of Woody Allen’s best-loved films, Hannah and Her Sisters, won three richly deserved Oscars and is considered a joy from start to perfectly-judged finish.
Hannah (Mia Farrow) is a devoted wife, loving mother and successful
actress. She’s also the emotional backbone of the family, and her sisters Lee (Barbara Hershey) and Holly (Dianne Wiest) depend on this stability while also resenting it because they can’t help but compare Hannah’s seemingly perfect life with theirs. But with her husband Elliott (Michael Caine) becoming increasingly interested in Lee, it’s clear that Hannah might have problems of her own.

After five years, “Insidious” is taking fans to the Further once more with “Insidious: The Red Door.” The latest installment is now available on Digital, which means now is the perfect time to catch up on the creepy franchise (or experience it for the first time). Beginning with “Insidious” in 2010, the horror films center around a family who finds themselves haunted by demons from another realm, along with the people who try to help them.
Created by horror veteran Leigh Whannell (who also created the “Saw” franchise along with James Wan), each installment of the “Insidious” takes viewers deeper into the Further, a nightmarish dimension populated by tortured spirits and ruled over by a malevolent demon. “The Red Door” will be the fifth installment in the franchise, and will once again focus on the Lambert family, with Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins all reprising their roles from the first two films.

Cisgusting.
We spent June discussing genderfluid dinosaurs, evil weaves and queer-coded hitchhikers, and we’re kicking off July with a discussion of the Sleepaway Camp of it all in James Wan‘s 2013 sequel Insidious: Chapter 2.
Insidious: Chapter 2 sees Renai (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Patrick Wilson) Lambert recovering from their showdown with evil spirits that possessed their son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and are ready for their lives to return to normal. However, something still is off with Josh, who — unbeknown to Renai — is possessed by the mysterious entity that followed him out of the Further at the end of the first film. In order to free Josh’s soul and finally defeat the malevolent forces around them, Lorraine Lambert (Barbara Hershey) and her ghost-hunting friends investigate the past to save her family’s future.

If you’re anything like me, you probably haven’t given too much thought to what happened to the Lambert family after the end of 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2. After all, their story seemed to have come to a definitive close, and even the filmmakers didn’t seem to particularly care since they continued the franchise with two prequels. But since horror films are money in the bank even in the post-pandemic theatergoing era, now comes Insidious: The Red Door, which revisits the original characters ten years later. You won’t be surprised to hear that they’re not doing very well.
Well, Renai (Rose Byrne) seems okay, since she had the good sense to divorce Josh (Patrick Wilson, who makes his directorial debut with this purportedly final installment) after he tried to kill her and the children. Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth installment of the Insidious franchise and helmed by actor-turned-director Patrick Wilson, promises a dive into the haunted memories of the past, but the script by Scott Teems delivers little more than a stifling yawn. Alongside Wilson, the film stars Ty Simpkins, Rose Bryne and Sinclair Daniel.
The film begins where Insidious 2 concluded, with Josh Lambert (Wilson) and his suppressed memories of “The Further.” It then abruptly shifts to the solemn setting of the funeral of Josh’s mother, Lorraine (played by Barbara Hershey in previous films). While Dalton (Simpkins), Josh’s oldest son, reads from Scripture, the estranged Josh and Renai (Bryne) and other siblings wrestle with their loss. Also at the funeral, an encounter with Carl (played by Steve Coulter in previous films), the man responsible for erasing Josh’s memories, highlights the depths of Josh’s amnesia.

The horribly tragic true story of Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore has been grist for several true-crime dramas. During the summer of 1980, Montgomery stopped by her friend Gore's home to pick up a swimsuit for Gore's daughter. Gore allegedly confronted Montgomery, who was engaged in an affair with her husband. A fight ensued, and, per Montgomery, she murdered Gore in self-defense. The sticking point here is the viciousness of the killing: Gore was struck 41 times with an axe. Though Montgomery was found not guilty, many people in the Dallas suburb of Wylie, Texas believed she had murdered Gore in cold blood, and protested the verdict.
Barbara Hershey won a Primetime Emmy for playing a fictionalized version of Montgomery in Stephen Gyllenhaal's 1990 made-for-tv movie "A Killing in a Small Town." In 2022, Jessica Biel portrayed Montgomery opposite Melanie Lynskey's Gore in Nick Antosca and Robin Veith's Hulu series...

This article contains details of real life events that will likely spoil future episodes of Love & Death.
Elizabeth Olsen is the lead in HBO Max’s new true crime limited drama series Love & Death. Olsen’s journey into the bloody genre sees her take on the role of murderer Candy Montgomery for seven episodes alongside Jesse Plemons.
In recent years several true crime dramas have been major hits for streamers, from the likes of Netflix’s controversial Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville. So it was no surprise then that HBO Max decided to take part too and add Candy Montgomery’s story to its stream. However, this is not the first time Candy’s story has been told.
In 1990, Stephen Gyllenhaal made a film inspired by the story called A Killing in a Small Town starring Barbara Hershey and Lee Garlington.

Why does the new HBO Max miniseries Love & Death exist?
On a certain level, yes, I understand why it exists. This is prime Emmy-bait season, and the role of Candy Montgomery — a Texas housewife who, on a warm Sunday in 1980, killed her friend Betty Gore, striking her with an axe 41 times — is an obvious awards play for star Elizabeth Olsen. This is prime Emmy-bait season, and the role of Candy Montgomery — a Texas housewife who, on a warm Sunday in 1980, killed her friend Betty Gore, striking her with an axe 41 times — is an obvious awards play for star Elizabeth Olsen. It may also be for supporting actors like Jesse Plemons, who plays Betty’s husband — and, crucially, Candy’s lover — and for its Emmy-adored creator David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies...

The Insidious franchise has always had a special place in my little black heart. And I believe it’s because I was so pleasantly surprised at my theater experience with the first film.
Something about that gigantic red Insidious popping on the screen as the violin violently erupted like an A24 score having a panic attack just stuck with me. It was a very Sam Raimi moment and I was enamored with the whole experience. Though the sequels continue to have diminishing scary time returns, I continue to root for and enjoy this horror franchise.
So, without further (Get It?!?! Further? I apologize) ado, here are my top five scariest moments from the entire Insidious franchise… while you wait for Insidious: The Red Door!
The Red Demon Jump Scare – Insidious
Normally I would never include a jump scare as the “scariest” scene in a movie but this particular jump scare happens to have nuance.

When Martin Scorsese was just 11 years old, he storyboarded a cinematic epic named “The Eternal City,” which he described as “a fictitious story of Royalty in Ancient Rome.” It was envisioned to film in 75mm CinemaScope and star Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Virginia Mayo, and Alec Guinness. This remains a fascinating, ambitious artifact that’s been shared far and wide online. But perhaps just as interesting are the storyboards critic Richard Blake describes in his book After Image: The Indelible Catholic Imagination of Six American Filmmakers. According to Blake, Scorsese, aged 10, drew even earlier the Stations of the Cross: images of Jesus Christ’s final days and moments before death.
Many years later, Scorsese would at last film his version of those events in The Last Temptation of Christ, and the result was one of the most controversial films of all time.
Christianity has a deep and enduring impact on Scorsese’s work.

In New York, everyone can hear you scream. But will they really care? In the city that never sleeps, evil lurks around every corner, ready to strike whenever one's guard is let down for just a moment. Sure, it's a gorgeous, bustling metropolis, but if horror movies have taught audiences anything, it's that the Big Apple packs some big scares. Tyler Gillett & Matt Bettinelli-Olpin surprised fans with their very funny, very bloody 2022 "Scream" reboot. For the sixth entry, the duo have supplanted Woodsboro, California, in favor of New York City, letting Ghostface get bigger, meaner, and deadlier.
Shooting in the actual city can be costly, likely accounting for just how few true New York horror stories there really are. Often, Manhattan is merely used as a backdrop, the horror features never fully taking advantage of the distinct iconography or scale for something truly terrifying. Some have, however, and here, we'll...

The Waltons is a classic American drama that ran for nine seasons on television throughout the 1970s and 1980s, with a number of television specials in the early 1990s. The show helped make some of the actors household names, including Richard Thomas, who played John-Boy Walton.

However, many of the child actors on the show have spoken out in recent years to let the world know that they were not adequately compensated for their work on the show, leading many of them to have a lower net worth than other child actors of the era and find work outside of Hollywood since the end of the series.

The Screen Actors Guild presented legendary comic actor Eddie Cantor with the first annual Life Achievement Award back in 1962. Over the past six decades, the award for ‘outstanding achievement in fostering ideals of the acting profession” has been given to such Hollywood icons as Stan Laurel, Bob Hope, Barbara Stanwyck, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart, Frank Sinatra, James Cagney, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. More recently, Mary Tyler Moore, Charles Durning, Debbie Reynolds, Rita Moreno, Carol Burnett, Helen Mirren and Robert De Niro have received the honor.

With the release of "M3GAN," discourse about MPAA ratings has again reared its ugly head. "M3GAN," which scooped in 45 million worldwide during its opening weekend, is rated PG-13. And that has many horror fans deriding the rating, with some arguing that the film suffers from its lack of an R since much of the gore and violence has been tamed for a younger demographic. That's not to say "M3GAN" doesn't have enough bite. It has plenty. As /Film writer Witney Seibold posits, "M3GAN" has enough "nerve" as a PG-13 film. It doesn't need to be rated R.
When it comes to horror, MPAA ratings have never equated quality. Many horror films have been rated PG, including "Poltergeist," for example, that are still just as effective in their storytelling and supply plenty of thrills and chills. It's a tired argument to suggest horror can only excel with an R-rating. Ultimately, the rating doesn't matter.

The Natalie Portman-starring Black Swan was a huge success for Darren Aronofsky back in 2010, dancing its way to 329 million worldwide and even winning an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Portman). The film was also up for Best Motion Picture of the Year at the Academy Awards in 2011, a very rare achievement for a horror movie.
Now more than ten years later, Darren Aronofsky teases in a chat with The A.V. Club that he’s working on bringing Black Swan to the stage with a musical based on his 2010 movie.
“We’re trying to do the Black Swan musical,” Aronofsky tells the outlet.
He continues, “We’ll see what happens. But we’re working on it.”
In Black Swan, “A committed dancer (Natalie Portman) struggles to maintain her sanity after winning the lead role in a production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.”

This article contains spoilers for the ending of "Black Swan."
In Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," mirrors, windows, and other reflective surfaces abound. There are times when ballerina Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman in an Oscar-winning role) falls out of alignment with her own reflection while practicing in front of a mirror. There are other times still when Nina sees mirror images of herself in other people. On the train, she and Lily (Mila Kunis), another ballerina in the same Manhattan company, are depicted as plainclothes doubles, dressed in white and black, in keeping with the roles of the Swan Queen (or White Swan) and the Black Swan in Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake."
In the closing credits, Portman, Kunis, and other cast members are identified by both their character names in "Black Swan" and their analogous ballet roles in "Swan Lake." The movie is all about Nina getting in touch with her dark side — and indeed,...
