Jamie Lee Curtis was awarded with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the American Film Institute at the conservatory‘s commencement ceremony. The Oscar winner was the keynote speaker at the event, held Aug. 10. at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
“If you look at the paper, I’m not supposed to be here,” Curtis stated as began her speech. “I am the underachiever who just was awarded this incredible honor.”
Curtis’ resume would beg to differ: the actor, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” has built an extensive filmography that includes the “Halloween” movies, “Freaky Friday,” “Knives Out,” “Trading Places,” “My Girl,” “A Fish Called Wanda” and “True Lies,” plus television credits like “Scream Queens” and “Anything But Love.”
“I am, for you graduates, the representation of the underachiever who has achieved,” Curtis continued. “I am an artist, I can say it to you today.

A little over a year after landing her first Oscar, and a month after earning her second-ever Emmy nomination for her role in The Bear, Jamie Lee Curtis can now add “doctor” to her long list of accomplishments.
The star was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the American Film Institute at the film school’s class of 2024 commencement ceremony on Saturday. Halloween director John Carpenter was on hand to present her with the honor, noting, “We did Halloween, and it made all of us famous, but Jamie Lee especially. She became the queen of horror movies; I’m not sure she wanted that. I’ve watched Jamie’s career through the years and watched her grow as an actress, and finally, finally, she won an Academy Award — and rightfully so. She is an amazing talent.”

Angela Bassett once again played The Sovereign Queen Ramonda in the sequel to 2018’s “Black Panther.” It was the first superhero movie to ever earn an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, while also winning for its score, production design and costumes. She reprised her role in the 2022 Disney/Marvel feature film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” receiving an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win.
In 2018, Bassett was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from her alma mater, Yale University. She received an honorary Oscar in 2024. Her career as a film actress began with a small role as Reva Devereaux in 1991 in “Boyz n the Hood.” She is married to actor Courtney B. Watch out, Iron Man, there’s a new armored superhero in the MCU.
Marvel Studios revealed a sneak peak of the upcoming Disney+ series “Ironheart” for the audience at the D23 Expo on Friday. The show continues the story of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), who made her MCU debut in 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and the footage was very much in keeping with the aesthetics of that film.
“After my internship abroad, I felt stuck,” Riri says, referring to her time in Wakanda. “I want to build something undeniable.”
To do that, however, she says she needs “cash money,” which leads her to Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), who dons a magical hood that gives him access to the dark arts — setting up a clash between him and the scientifically driven Riri. At one point, Parker faces off against Alden Ehrenrich’s character, Joe McGillicuddy.

Live with Kelly and Mark has looked different lately for fans of the popular show, with Kelly Ripa missing each day.
Mark Consuelos, her husband and co-host, has had several fill-ins, while Kelly is taking a break ahead of an exciting weekend.
Deja Vu, Live’s announcer, sat beside Mark while Kelly was unexpectedly absent without any official announcement or fanfare.
While Mark hasn’t mentioned why Kelly has been missing this week, she shared on her social media what is coming up, including a blast from her past.
Kelly was named one of the people on a list, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Angela Bassett, and Harrison Ford, who will be honored as a Disney Legend in 2024.
As Monsters and Critics reported, when Kelly was honored as a Disney Legend, she felt she was there as “comic relief” instead of being deserving of the honor.

Live with Kelly and Mark fans don’t like it when host, Kelly Ripa disappears without explanation. The ABC star is popular, but it’s not the first time that she just nipped away and left Mark Consuelos to co-host with guests. However, sometimes it’s worth watching. Like the time he worked with Anderson Cooper. With Kelly away at the moment, fans wonder where she got to this time.
Live Kelly Ripa Talks About Retiring
A year ago, the ABC talk show host talked a lot about retiring. In fact, a lot of people thought that her leaving was imminent. At the time, Mark Consuelos was working with guest hosts, much like he is now. However, while retirement is going to happen one day it doesn’t seem like it will happen right now.

If you were experiencing a bit of deja vu while watching Live With Kelly and Mark this week, well, there’s a reason! On Wednesday’s (August 7) episode, Mark Consuelos cohosted the show with radio personality Deja Vu for the second time, after she previously filled in for Kelly Ripa on Monday (August 5). Ripa is absent from this week’s taped shows, so Consuelos has been working with a series of guest stars, including Jane Krakowski on Tuesday’s (August 6) episode. According to Decider, Maria Menounos will be on hand for Thursday’s (August 8) episode, and Jenny Mollen will cohost with Consuelos on Friday (August 9). Thanks for filling in for Kelly, @DejaVuSpeaks! pic.twitter.com/gQQ0CTHl1k — KellyMarkLive (@kellymarklive) August 5, 2024 The reason for Ripa’s absence has not yet been revealed. However, she is one of the honorees expected to attend the D23 Disney Legends Awards Ceremony at Honda Center in Anaheim,...

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Season 5 Trailer: Catastrophic Train Derailment Unleashes “Poison Cloud Of Death”

“Dispatch, we have a problem.” That’s putting it mildly. We’re getting the first look at Season 5 of 9-1-1: Lone Star and it promises to be devastating for Austin’s 126, led by Rob Lowe’s Captain Owen Strand.
Fox released the first trailer Monday for the fifth season which premieres September 23 on the network and next day on Hulu.
As Deadline previously reported, there has been rampant speculation that the 12-episode fifth season will be the last, but there’s no indication of that in the trailer. That speculation picked up speed when we learned that Sierra McClain, one of the series regulars, quietly left the series following some cast renegotiation drama.
In the upcoming fifth season, Captains Strand (Lowe) and Vega (Gina Torres) along with the 126 team, race into action when a catastrophic train derailment endangers several lives, including some of their own. With Judd (Jim Parrack...

The Season 5 premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star” promises an epic disaster to kick off the Fox series’ return: A train full of toxic chemicals crashes, leading to a “poison cloud of death,” as dispatch tells the rattled firefighters of the 126 in the trailer that Fox shared on Monday.
Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), channels Tom Hanks in “Apollo 13,” when he says, “Dispatch, we have a problem,” after seeing that passengers who survived the crash are bleeding from their eyes and mouth.
The multi-episode arc puts both Strand’s firefighters and Captain Tommy Vega’s paramedics team in danger. (Watch the trailer in the video above.)
Meanwhile, Judd (Jim Parrack) resigns to take care of his recently handicapped son Wyatt (Jackson Pace). As was previously reported, Sierra McClain, the actress who has played Judd’s wife for four seasons, will not be returning for Season 5. Her departure has sparked speculation...

The 118 is likely going to look a bit different when 9-1-1 returns. The first responder drama will be back for its eighth season this fall, and while we don’t know specifics yet about what to expect, a teaser has hinted at the emergency to open the season, a premiere date has been announced, and we can assume who will be back. Read on for all that and more. Where did 9-1-1 Season 7 leave off? The 118 nearly lost its captain, Bobby (Peter Krause), first when he decided to quit (and didn’t tell them) and then in a fire that burned down his and Athena’s (Angela Bassett) house. But he realized that leading the 118—Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Hen (Aisha Hinds), Buck (Oliver Stark), and Eddie (Ryan Guzman)—is where he belongs and was ready to return to work once he was healed. The only problem? Gerrard...

Updated with full lineup: Disney has revealed the full scope of its D23 fan event for 2024, and it is truly massive.

The list of events that dropped today is easily twice as larger as it has been in recent years.
See the full schedule and ticket details below.
Among the highlights at the Anaheim Convention Center are interactive floor experiences including a new Avatar pavilion, a Marvel Tva walkthrough experience, a Parks Imagineering pavilion, a Disney+ pavilion, talent photo ops with casts of such shows as Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,...

Recently, I wrote an article about how Ron Howard’s Cocoon was hard to find in any format. It came out on DVD many years ago but went out of print and has never been issued on Blu-ray. You also can’t find it digitally on any platform. This is a perfect example of why you should always hang on to your physical media, as I’m lucky enough to own the now out-of-print DVD of that movie, and while it’s far from an ideal copy, it’s something.
But that got me thinking. What other movies are hard to find? I opened up the forum on Twitter, and I was shocked by how many prominent films aren’t available digitally and have gone out of print on disc, making them all the more precious for collectors. At the same time, there are some happy endings, such as Martin Campbell’s No Escape,...

The casting in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies was always a mixed bag. Some picks were perfect at bringing the comic character to life — Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, etc. Others were swings and misses — Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse (but really any actor would have struggled inside that makeup), etc. Then there were some in the middle — actors who didn't really match the character on paper but still worked well due to the strength of their performances, like Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Marvel first started pursuing an "X-Men" movie in the 1980s, more than a decade before it was finally released. In 1990, Stan Lee and longtime "X-Men" comic book writer Chris Claremont met with James Cameron about him directing the movie, but Cameron was more interested in a "Spider-Man" movie (which...

Exclusive: We’ll be seeing more of Wyatt in the upcoming season of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Jackson Pace, who has recurred as the character since Season 3, has been promoted to series regular for Season 5.
Pace has appeared in nine episodes of the series through its most recent Season 4 and will appear in all episodes of Season 5, which premieres Monday, September 23 on Fox.
Pace’s promotion follows the exit of Sierra McClain, who, Deadline learned, had quietly left the series following some cast renegotiation drama, and amid rampant speculation that Season 5 will be the show’s final chapter.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph has already had a great 2024. The performer won an Oscar on her first nomination — taking home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Alexander Payne‘s “The Holdovers.” However, her year just got even better with an Emmy nomination on the cards for her guest role in Hulu’s comedy series “Only Murders in the Building.” Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the comedy series follows Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as three occupants of a New York City apartment building who are drawn into solving murders due to their love of true crime. The first season was so popular that two more seasons quickly followed, along with a host of A-list actors joining the cast including Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd.

And, it’s safe to say, the end result has not disappointed. “Deadpool and Wolverine” is a wildly fun ride with mind-blowing cameos (no spoilers here), a healthy dose of the wonderful Matthew Macfadyen, and a killer soundtrack. But the draw is obviously Deadpool and Wolvy on screen together. Reynolds delivers the laugh-out comedy with his off-kilter Deadpool-isms while Jackman plays Wolverine pretty straight-faced, gruffing and growling his way through a redemption arc that actually packs a punch full of emotion.
As a result, Reynolds and Jackman are a match made in heaven while Jackman is the heart and soul of the movie.

We all know that not everyone is a fan of superhero movies but it’s still rare for a celebrity to openly bash them. After all, no matter what you think of them going in, that’s a nice paycheck and global exposure, something few actors can pass up. But when Jamie Lee Curtis was recently quizzed by MTV to name which “phase” the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in, she had a one word response: “Bad.” So no MCU for Jlc.
But now, Jamie Lee Curtis has issued an apology over her remarks about Marvel, even going so far as to reach out to the company’s president. As she posted on social media: “I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper...

Jamie Lee Curtis was at this past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con to promote Borderlands, Eli Roth's upcoming video game adaptation...which hasn't exactly been generating much in the way of positive buzz.
Asked by MTV which Phase the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in (for one of those social media clips sites like that hope will go viral), Curtis responded "Bad" before looking at the camera and smiling as her co-stars laughed in the background.
The clip, which has gained a fair bit of traction online, has seen Curtis face heavy backlash from fans. You can watch it below:

Can you predict which actor, actress or director will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 Golden Globes? Well, at least we hope CBS will allow them to bring back this coveted award. For the 2024 ceremony, new producers opted not to present the DeMille (for a film legend) or the Carol Burnett Award (for a TV icon).
If the award returns, the selection committee will likely announce their life achievement recipient in the next few weeks. Vote in our poll below featuring 20 people all over 50 who deserve recognition.
The most recent ceremony in 2023 featured a tribute to Eddie Murphy. Actress Jane Fonda received the DeMille two years before.

Meet Prue. Laika has revealed a first look at their next new animation project called Wildwood, once again being directed by Travis Knight (of Kubo and the Two Strings). They originally started production with an inital announcement in 2021, and it's expected to debut sometime in 2025, as they continue working at their animation studio outside of Portland. The first look reveal comes from UK's Empire Magazine, where they have an entire feature about Wildwood's production as well as a special "first-ever stop-motion animated digital magazine cover" introducing the main character. Prue McKeel (voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her best friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest outside Portland after Prue's baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows, led by a mysterious woman named Alexandra. The full cast also includes Jacob Tremblay as Curtis, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement,...

On Wednesday morning, Team Disney received 183 votes of confidence from the Television Academy on how the Mouse House is performing as the company expands TV content production to unprecedented scale and with a great diversity of program genres and formats.
The fact that the 76th annual Emmy Awards nominations, unveiled July 17, were spread far and wide among Disney’s television units was the most significant achievement on a day that brought a lot of good news for the divisions under the purview of Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden.

A total of 36 individuals earned their first Primetime Emmy acting nominations in 2024, including “Feud” stars Naomi Watts and Tom Hollander and recent Oscar also-rans Lily Gladstone (“Under the Bridge”) and Ryan Gosling (“Saturday Night Live”). A standout among these newbies is Paul Rudd, who is the only one in the group with shots at two performance wins: Best Comedy Supporting Actor (“Only Murders in the Building”) and Best Narrator (“Secrets of the Octopus”).
Rudd could now make Emmys history as the eighth doubly-nominated first-timer to triumph on at least one of his bids. The first to do so was Robert Cummings, who simultaneously won for “12 Angry Men” and lost for “My Hero” in 1955. He was followed by Jack Albertson, Eileen Brennan, Jane Lynch, Riz Ahmed, Ann Dowd, and Ali Wong.

Rising to unmatched fame and stardom after his iconic portrayal of Jules Winnfield in Fiction in 1994, he has gone on to do a ton of films that have showcased his acting prowess. Jackson has been working in the film industry since 1972, where he has worked in over 150 films, dropping F-bombs neatly sewn together with his dialogues.

As an actor, Jackson is quite bold and does not shy away from surprising his fans. However, in his long and stellar career, he has refrained from being n*de in front of the camera. The reason is related to his masculinity which has stopped him from doing such scenes.
Surprisingly, the Django Unchained actor is not the only one who is hesitant to do such scenes because Angela Bassett, another Marvel star explained her reason for avoiding such scenes.

Mission: Impossible 8 has a new addition to the cast, as Deadline reports that Stephen Oyoung (Twisters) has signed on. Of course, there’s no word on who Oyoung will be playing in the movie, but he joins quite the jam-packed ensemble.
In addition to Tom Cruise as Imf agent Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible 8 features several returning cast members, including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt. New additions include Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, and Tramell Tillman.
Oyoung will next be seen in Twisters, but he’s probably best known for playing Martin Li / Mister Negative in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. He has also appeared in movies such as Sicario, Terminator: Dark Fate, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and more. Oyoung has...

The Og 9-1-1 continues to dominate ratings and the conversation.
After moving to ABC, the veteran drama returned to form with an action-packed opener and engaging and thought-provoking character-driven hours throughout the season.
9-1-1 has always been known for its emergencies, but the heart of the series has always been with its incredibly diverse cast of characters.
The star-studded ensemble has (mostly) stayed intact throughout the series run, which is almost unheard of in today's TV landscape.
As 9-1-1 Season 8 gets ready to premiere in the fall of 2024, we're looking at the dynamic cast that brings the stories to life and the complex and captivating characters they play.

There was a lot of debate and speculation about how Marvel Studios planned to proceed with a sequel to Black Panther following the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman, and the decision was ultimately made to forge ahead with Wakanda Forever and have another character take up the mantle.
T'Challa's little sister always seemed like the most obvious choice (though others were rumored), and while Marvel did a pretty good job of keeping the reveal out of the various trailers and TV spots, Shuri (Letitia Wright) ended up honouring her late brother and mother (Angela Bassett) by suiting-up as Wakanda's new protector.
The movie concludes with Shuri meeting her nephew, the son T'Challa had with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), and finally allowing herself to stop mourning her brother's death by burning her funeral robes.
Though T'Challa Jr. (Divine Love Konadu-Sun) will likely grow to take up his father's mantle and...

A complicated rights issue prevented Marvel Studios from introducing Namor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many years, but the aquatic anti-hero finally made his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Narcos actor Tenoch Huerta played the character, who started out as an enemy of Shuri (Letitia Wright), before forming an uneasy alliance with Wakanda's new protector towards the end of the movie.
Last year, Huerta was hit with sexual assault allegations by saxophonist María Elena Ríos, who accused the actor of being a "sexual predator" in a series of Tweets.
The story was picked up and widely circulated online, and Huerta later released a statement (via Variety) categorically denying Rios' claims and calling them “false and completely unsubstantiated.”
“About a year ago, I dated Elena for several months,” Huerta wrote. “It was entirely consensual at all times, as countless others can attest. And throughout it was a loving, warm and mutually supportive relationship.

Even though the move from Fox to ABC was one of the scariest moments for all 9-1-1 fans expecting the worst, it ended up being a blessing in disguise.
From the production value to the realization of fans' most anticipated theories, it was clear from day one how much hope the network was putting into its new procedural.
Now that the show has been renewed for another season, and fans can expect a longer, pre-strike season on their screens, they're speculating that 9-1-1 will be integrated with another show under the ABC umbrella. The Rookie was the title that was mentioned the most in all the conversations.

“Tuition-free” is becoming the new buzzword, as several of the world’s top drama schools plan to adopt that policy starting this fall, including the graduate programs at Juilliard and USC.
These join a number of existing free programs on The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual list of the best drama schools, as they look to expand accessibility and mitigate the debt many drama students bring into continuing education. It’s a big positive step in a year when many schools have been emerging from the pandemic era of largely online classes and leaning into more inclusive, tech-forward curriculums.
In addition to broadening access to more diverse candidates and wanting to stay competitive with recruitment, the push to go tuition-free at USC was spurred on by the writers and actors strikes. “Just knowing how volatile the industry is for these creatives, it’s extremely important that they not be saddled with...

In September 2021, Olivia Colman bagged her first career Emmy for “The Crown” despite having failed on her Oscar bid for “The Father” five months earlier. This made her the 16th performer to triumph at the Emmys after going home empty-handed at the same year’s Oscars and the fourth to do so during the 21st century. The release of the 2024 Emmy nominations ballots confirmed that nine of the 16 actors who lost at the latest Oscars ceremony are capable of joining Colman on said list.
Gold Derby’s current Emmy odds indicate that the man and woman with the best hopes of following in Colman’s footsteps are Ryan Gosling and Jodie Foster, who just earned their respective third and fifth Academy Award notices for their supporting turns in “Barbie” and “Nyad.” They are now generally expected to share in the experience of being first-time acting Emmy nominees thanks to his...

Portland-based Laika will explore a labyrinthian alternate reality in “Piranesi,” one of its upcoming stop-motion animated features, adapted from Susanna Clarke’s best-selling fantasy novel. Laika president/CEO Travis Knight will direct, pushing stop-motion further into the domain traditionally occupied by live action.
In “Piranesi,” the eponymous protagonist lives in a strange house comprised of infinite rooms, endless corridors, and walls lined with thousands of statues. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. Piranesi, who believes that he’s always lived in the house, studies the tides and architectural pattern as part of his exploration. He meets another person, the Other, who visits twice a week and asks for assistance in his research about the house. Piranesi soon discovers dark secrets and a world beyond what he’s always known.
